What are you going to use it for?

It would be a "first" boat for me and I don't want to blow my wad on a $60K boat just yet. I'd probably throw about 2K of ballast/lead in it and use it as my daily/weekend pull. I'd say I'm an intermediate rider actively progressing.

Doesn't sound like the best option for wakeboarding...

"MasterCraft says its X-5 gives great bang for the buck, having all the great skiing characteristics of the 19 Skier, but with the wakeboarding tower and style of the X-series boats. It is a unique boat in that its a closed-bow inboard with a fairly small hull at 19 feet, 6 inches long and 85 inches wide. But it has killer wakeboarding graphics and a ZeroFlex Flyer tower with racks. It looks like a sweet wakeboarding boat; certainly something any rider would be proud to ride behind; and skis like a world-class tournament boat."

Thats a 2001 Zero Flex on it.

Some people claim the 190 is just a shorter version of the 205, but I don't think they will put out the wake the 205 will. What are they asking for it? It would probably do fine for your first boat though.

I had a PS 195 back in 2000-2001 4 fat sacks made the wake really fun. It was a good all around boat for us at a nice price.

that looks like it's a super sport with air nautique graphics added. Malibu looks really nice though.

i had a '98 vlx just like that (same color and all)...it was a good boat...sold it last summer. it did the trick but took a lot of weight to make a big wake. plus...with no plate or wedge, i couldn't shape the wake...and it was a little too mellow for my taste. for what it's worth...it also sold in the $20K-$25K range. i would definitely go open bow no matter what...even if i had to buy a little older boat...

good luck...

The Xstar, VLX and Super Sport/Air Nautique are all very proven wakes and would make most peoples' top 5 wakes, so I don't think that you could go wrong with any of those. Just look at them all and decide which wake and interior suits your needs best. I would rule out the X5 if the price was the same or in the ballpark. The other 3 are the more obvious choices in my opinion.

Luker- as you can see by my name on here, I have a 99xstar. I fill one of those 1000 pound sacs in the bow and fill a 550 on each side of the engine. Sounds close to what you're thinking of running. I usually have about 4 or 5 people in the boat while someone is riding. We have added more and the shape stays the same, just gets bigger and more nutty.

The wake has a steep shape with plenty of lip at 75'. It's one of those wakes that pops you into the air pretty aggressively. I wish I had a pic of the wake for you. It's really my favorite wake that I've ridden. The last 2 boats you picture throw some nice wakes too.

I'd listen to these guys about staying away from the X5. You're just not going to get the wake that those other boats throw.

Also, the 205 that Paul is talking about is the same hull as that x-star you are looking at.

I'd Go w/ The Nautique.

I had that exact same x-5 and LOVED IT! Great first boat. So easy to drive, Sacked up, it had a great wake. Not a moster ass wake like the newer boats throw, but nice and fun and had a descent size and fantastic shape. Not finicky at all, not foamy and was also solid. Was easy to get a bigger wake with less weight due to the size of the boat. It would be a good choice for an intermed rider/driver

I'm leaning towards the X-Star but I should probably buy my wife a house first :-) We'll see if she goes for it!

my friends have a nicely weighted down X-5 and it is one of the best wakes ive ever ridden.

the rear locker is nice and deep and fits a good sized sack, that and one up in the bow and you are laughing.

x-5 is a great boat.
