Wakesurf wax? cooking spray?

I have a hyperlite coex 4.4. The board is a few years old. Is there a way to make the board faster by applying something to the bottom. I thought about trying wax or cooking spray?

From what they said on their blog, you probably will only notice a big difference if you dont pump (ie you just stand in the pocket and shift your weight front and back)

I perfer pumping to catch back up with the pocket. If I put enough weight in the boat the board works great for me (155lbs). But when my brother (185) rides the board it's just too slow. I was looking for a simple solution instead of getting another board for someone his weight.

Might try that stuff. donno tho. couldnt hurt to try cooking spray. i think wax will just slow you down.

Yeah - the surf nano stuff didn't help with speed. Made the board feel "slippery"'er rail-to-rail, but nothing gained in terms of down the line speed. I doubt there is anything that can be sprayed on that will affect down-the-line speed in any significant way on that board. Personally, I believe the real culprit is the round rails. They are more forgiving, but also add a ton of drag for bigger riders. Water will wrap around curved surfaces and round rails are used specifically to add foregiveness and control through drag. As weight increases, more of the rail will be pushed down into the wake and up towards the nose where the rail is soft/round. Creating more and more drag.

All things being equal, (wake, speed etc), you'll probably be better served with a larger board for your brother. Also, there is a phenomenon most of us have experienced, after gaining your surf legs, you are able to surf smaller and smaller baords. Probably a function of muscle memory and greater awarness how to work a board. Perhaps your brother just needs a larger board for the time being?

Thanks wakedad! I need to get a bigger board for friends who want to try. I hate to spend much money on a board that is too big for me. Maybe I'll find something on sale this offseason.

Yea, you should be able to find some stuff. And your bigger friends dont need a real high quality board, kinda d1ck way to look at it, but if they want a high quality board that you wouldnt be able to benefit from having, they can buy it haha. I think its boardermall.com or something like that, that has some good deals on surfers sometimes.

We have an old surf board, like a real one its like 5' 7" thats beat to hell, been spray painted, and was given to us by a friend in cali, thats the board my big friend (275 lbs) rides when I decide to bring it out. Its just such a hassle to take huge board like that out, dont fit in the racks.
