What song (or songs) would you love to see in a video - either a big DVD release or a web release - even a Vimeo short.

What song, or genre, do you think is under represented in wake videos. Feel free to post links, clips etc.

DubStep.

Get it done.

That would be awesome. I agree, dubstep is one. This song may be one...

Dubstep is a good idea. I'm a big TOOL fan so i would love to see someone use their song The Pot.

Saw this in a snowboarding mix. Amazing slow motion music. Apparently it's oldschool dubstep, but I wouldn't know. Either way, it kicks ass:

Also, this funny little classic from The Flaming Lips:

And especially these two by Kanye:

I'd love to see some Chevelle, Breaking Benjamin, RATM, or some Three Days Grace...guess that means I feel that Rock is under represented.

Totally agree. Sometimes I just feel like riding angry and setting it to Killing in the Name.

Randall Harris Section in Natural Born Thrillaz, His Section has RATM, Bombtrack I think, and it could get anyone pumped to ride. I should go watch that.

More tunes like this. To this day this is still my favorite song in a wake movie (even though it might not have been in the original push process it was in the fuel tv version).I dont know what it is about this song but it gets me hype.

I could only find a live version.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XfGBX3egTBg

EDIT: this video is for reference only. Just realized it is mostly in spanish and Chali 2na is not in the video and he has the best part of the song. I guess more Breakestra in general!

Start? Dubstep is already being used in a huge percentage of the new edits that are coming out. It works in some films, but it gets old after awhile.

the collection of music on this video, is still by far my favorite. I dont like Hip hop at all, so most wake vids nowadays are viewed on mute in my house.
not a country fan, but cobe mikacich and mike weddingtons section in this video is pure perfection when it came to choosing a song.

Dub step is going to flame out pretty soon. Theres only so much you can do with it before it just becomes noise, and mainstream "rap" (stuff on the radio) has already started sampling the beats. In my Opinion, Dubstep is on its way out. I think Adventureklub (idk how they spell it) makes some good stuff, but even then I have trouble listening to a whole dubstep song through.

The music for an edit should be a reflection of the riders and there style. If any of you guys have ever watched any of the ThinkThank snowboard videos, I think they do a great job of this, especially "Cool Story"

If the rider wants dubstep on their part or dubstep works with what they are doing, go for it, but if they are a smooth rider, i think dubstep would kill their part.

There is an artist called Timeflies, who have been on youtube for awhile. They're kind of a Dubstep/Rap artist, but they dabble with covers and stuff. Their beatmaker(correct term?) Rez is just insane, and lots of their stuff would sound great in a video.

Timeflies is awesome. Got you an edit with one of their songs already, hahaha.

Not the greatest of edits but still, at least one does exist.

Jay,

I've been trying for a while to figure out how to use a Chevelle song for an edit, but it's real hard to match it up with the riding by a lot of my friends that I make the edits of.

Joey,

I agree with you on all counts. Dubstep is now overdone. Earlier dubstep remixes were sick, but now the songs have just become obnoxious basslines with fax machine noises, and frankly I don't think it works well with most wake edits. I also agree that the song picked should reflect their style. Sometimes you can just look at the way a person rides and see what kind of music works with it, or vice versa. Hear a song and just know what riders style would fit with that song.

I've always wondered why wake videos tend to use softer slower music and play over half the footage in slow-motion. Admittedly I come from more of a skate background, but to me sometimes the moves and sets look more impressive at full speed. I would love to see something different, full speed sets with rock or punk as the background music. Just my opinion...

As long as they edit to the beat and don't overuse slow motion and twixtor, any music is fine!

Everyone has a right to opinions, certainly in a thread like this... but if crappy, unsigned fusion hip-hop-rock didn't ruin wake films in the last 10 years then dubstep won't either.

Wow, admit I have never heard of "Dubstep" and now I know why. I may show my age here, but how in the hell do you young guys listen to that crap. I like a solid beat, even rap but c'mon that is just plain terrible. Sorry....I agree with DeeCee....that would ruin a video, to the point I shut it off no matter who is riding.

I love DubStep but I totally "get" this..

My mother in law once heard the music I listen to and said "oh, what is that?".. I said "it's Dubstep - it's the kind of music I listen to".. She said "well, it sounds like road construction"

I've also heard it described as sounding like transformers having sex.

It's not for everyone - but I love it..

Scott - if you turn this video off before it's over - just because of the music you won't see Lior hit a 30 foot air without a kicker..

Dubstep isn't bad. I really liked it when I first learned about it.

I've described it as sounding like a 100 foot robot being born, having a tantrum, exploding, and destroying itself. Close your eyes and listen to just about every dubstep song - I'm sure my story can be fit in there. But it does fizzle out, and I think my interest in it has peaked.

Get set though, because dubstep is only now getting into a lot of mainstream things. It'll fizzle out but it will be around for a few minutes. While the robot dismantles itself.

Wake set to dubstep though, I far from mind it.

I haven't been on here as much as I should but this thread caught my interest and I don't want to do homework.

I love music and wakeboarding and I really can't have one without the other. With that being said, here are some jams that I think would be awesome to see in a video. Most of them somewhat current, maybe around a year old so for the most part, finding new music while watching awesome wakeboarding is a great thing. We rode to a lot of these last summer so if they don't fit an edit, maybe you'd like them anyway.

I'll try to keep this somewhat organized and there's a little something from more than one genre so don't be put off but some that you might not like.

I love dubstep in vids, lots of build up to huge releases, just like a trick. To those who said dubstep was dying, the original british dubstep from the late 90's early 2000's is "dying" so much as its transforming into the new dubstep you hear today. That new stuff you hear today, is doing the exact opposite of dying, its taking hold in mainstream and growing rapidly. Northface and movie trailers now using dubstep is a sign of it dying? How many grammies did Skrillex just get nominated for? Dubstep is going to explode and be transformed into a ton of different styles. I love some of the oldschool hip hop influences and remixes that have been coming out. You know in the 1920s when Jazz musicians started sampling all sorts of different styles and improvising, people also thought it was terrible. I understand why some may not like it, but put it in perspective.
Old     (jaybee)      Join Date: Aug 2007       02-05-2012, 7:47 AM Reply
Skrillex getting nominated for a Grammy is a true CRIME. BTW doubt there was samplers in the 1920's but maybe you are just referring to the style they were playing. Dubstep, put in perspective, is lowest common denominator music just like Miley Cyrus or Lady Gaga.
Old     (baltfrog)      Join Date: Feb 2012       02-05-2012, 10:24 AM Reply
Very open minded opinion you have there. I love bob dylan, but top dupstep artists have a far better understanding of musical architecture then dylan ever did. I can understand not liking it because I didn't even like it when I first heard it, but calling it the lowest common denominator simply shines light on your limited exposure to the genre. Saying that dubstep artists are like Miley Cyrus just doesn't make sense. You are comparing musicians who have all their music written and produced for them, to artists that have a wide breadth of musical talent and taste. Not sure if you know, but people like Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber are paying dubstep artists top dollar for their help in production. Thats like calling a puppet maker, a puppet. I can respect people who don't like it, but if you want to talk bad about something do some research first. Again Jazz borrowed from all genres and was heavily based on improvization and pushing instruments to their limit. If an artist today plays an instrument records it on vinyl and samples it into his dubstep songs, I'm not going to call that lowest common denominator. Respect other peoples taste is all I gotta say! I HATE heavy metal but respect those double pedal drummers as much as the best musicians. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean it takes no talent to make it.
