We have looked at 2 different malibu's where this has occurred. An 05 and an 06. The spots look like rust and only appear on certain colors in the boat. On this boat it was only in the gray but not the white and in another boat it appeared only in the black (charcoal?) and not the really light gray that malibu uses. Anybody know why?

From dead leaves (tannin) staying on there maybe?

Staining from something left on the vinyl. I had a pink spot(from a board) that took a little soft scrub to get out.

You're absolutely right. How could I have been so insensitive. After reading this board for about five years now I should have known that this is not the place for snappy, smart-ass one-liners.

If it wasn't obvious to the semi-hardheaded....my reply was tongue-in-cheek.

Why don't you grow a set dilweed.

Respectfully,

Dave

Your comment was rude plain and simple... you're right many people on here do make comments like that and they're trying to get a pissed off response out of people. What other purpose did your comment have. Try thinking. It might work for ya.

Respectfully,

Tyler

My bu does the same thing on the gray on the sun deck. My conclusion is that the sun block or tan oils from one's body soak in the vynil and stain it. Let it sit in the sun and it will bleach it out. I think the darker color causes the sun to back it in.

No worries Tyler Dave's just pissed cause he's got the cheesiest vinyl in the industry, I love how they fold over the seams and sew them. Or maybe that was just the new Tomcat I saw. He's got to get his diggs in somehow, and this was his only shot at Malibu.

Drew those are definetely leaf stains. I've got an 06 but that's never happened to my boat, the owners haven't taken care of those boats if you ask me.

wow. you can't mess with malibu owners. they react like a women when you tell her she's gained a pound. very sensitive.

Dave,
I love, it, starting smack talk on internet posting boards, then calling me names! Very becoming of an officer of the law. There is a reason I don't let people know whom I really am, they then tend to underestimate who I am and offier multiple insults aimed to instigate anger and ire! Many people do make comments like yours, and I don't post things calling them out on there stupidity when they follow them with some words of wisdom that they may have to help an individual out. I called you on yours because you offered none of the latter, instead you acted like a 14 year old chump who runs around spewing forth worthless crud, not like the person whom your profile proclaims you to be. You may have been around here for 5 years, boy you sure are old school! In 5 years you should have learned somebody was bound to call you out on your crud. I guess I just expect more substance out of people whom have attained a reasonable age and income that allows them to afford a boat. Guess I was wrong

I may own a Malibu, but even if it was a Mastercraft I would have said something about the stupid comment.

hey Eyez, no worries, I'm a farm kid, DA boot won't stop me. Besides the only friend better than a cop is a sheriff. Besides, if I saw Dave on the street I would still walk right up to him and introduce myself.

so if they are leaf stains, why didnt it stain the other color. I will see if i can get a picture of the other boat for another reference.

Leaf stain? What are the odds the leaves only sat right there? I would guess it was something else. On my seats I got some rusty/orange spots out of the blue. I tried to scrub them out to no avail. A weekend in the sun and they were gone.

Wow tough crowd! I thought it was funny! Many haha!
Really fellas its a joke! Maybe you should have a little thicker vinyl.. oh I mean skin!

In all seriousness I know some vinyl is more susceptible to mold damage. Storing it wet more than once the mold becomes impregnated in some more than others. Initially its black and green then it starts to fade turning to a rust or brown color then eventually going away but the more times it sees moldy conditions, the less it fades away. My buddy has a Malibu (he's sensitive too) and he eventually had to replace the vinyl because the staining got really bad. That is how the uhpolstery shop explained it to us.

I think someone mentioned this above, but maybe it's showing up on the darker colored spots of the vinl because those spots get a lot hotter in the sun and the stains are baked in? Sounds reasonable? Or, maybe there is a problem with the vinyl, like in my boat where I have little red spots showing up in various areas of the white vinyl.

u sure these aren't pollen stains???

Yea they look like tanning(leave's) stain's. I would think the sun and a magic eraser would get them out.
I think Magic Eraser, NVS and Wetsounds are the 3 most used words on W/W.

Its not leaf stains. I have a 06 VLX and get what he is describing only on the light grey vinyl that has a heavy texture on it. I agree it does appear "rust" like. I'm starting to think its coming from the boat cover but not sure. I have found that Babes seatsoap combined with a magic eraser and then some good old sun gets rid of it. Im also just getting it on the engine cover vinyl, I havent noticed it on any other part of the boat.

here is a picture of the other one. The picture isnt that great, but it is a little bit closer up. This is not in the shape of any leaves that I am familiar with. Any guesses? Upload

Impossible to believe in leaves or some mystery external cause only affecting the the darker colors. My GUESS is that there may have been some bad lots with the vinyl where the greys may not have had the right amount of mildew inhibitors or some other chemical impregnated in them.

Someone told me the orange stains on my seats was from pollen. I don't know where it would have come from and I noticed it after the boat had been covered in the garage over the winter. I would treat yours as if it were mold and kill it then bake it in the sun. WEIRD!

Drew I had the same thing happen to mine but mine looked a little different than those spots. Mine were caused by defective glue that they use underneath. It some how comes through the vinyl. They covered mine under the warranty. Although the dealership where I bought the boat had no clue about this issue amongst other things. So I took it to the one in Orlando and they solved the mystery stains. I would suggest if your dealer is not familiar with the problem then call down here to the one in orlando.

Duffy is right Glue problem with the vinyl. I have it on my 06 in the white and the dark blue. It is a warranty problem that they will cover. The Merced factory knows about it as well. My boat looks like I have a new version of leopard print. It is being completely redone at no charge to me. What more could you ask for 2 year old boat and get a whole new interior for free.

I think I need to point out that both dealers recognized the problem and both of them agreed to get new vinyl on warranty, my main concern was to find out how it happened so we could make sure it didnt happen again should we choose to purchase. I almost didnt say what boat manufactuerer (sp) that it was, but I thought it might help if people knew of a specific issue with the vinyl from boats made that year. Thanks again for your responses.
