I always feel that if I am not riding at 24-25 MPH, I need to speed up. I seem to be comfortable there. BUT...I sometimes feel that if I slow it down a bit, I pop alot higher. What does everyone else ride at? Should I slow down and lengthen the rope? I ride at 70' - 25 MPH.

what's with the boldface?

70' @25mph??? that's pretty fast, especially for that length of rope. oh well, ride at what's comfortable for you.

i ride 75-80, 23-24mph.

Well our boat forces us to ride 70' at around 25-27. That is what I learned at and havent ridden much different. When I do ride behind a wake boat at around 23 where the wake is awsome I feel like a slug on the water. So yeah, im comfortable with higher speeds, and I do notice a loss of pop when we speed up though.

going faster does make the wake shrink a little bit, but I always felt that it definitely makes it harder. You're speedometer could be off? If you feel comfortable at 25 why don't you try riding 80 feet of rope...or longer?

i normally ride at 21.5..does that sounds right?

what length are you riding at?

A lot of it depends on the boat/setup/and your comfort level.

Damn, you guys are riding fast. I ride behind a contender(it's my only option) @ 16mph. Could this be the reason I haven't really progressed? 20mph just feels so fast.
Old    wickedwake            06-07-2005, 11:09 AM Reply
16? That is a good speed for doing drills directly behind the boat, learning to ride switch and stuff. But at that speed you do a lot of plowinf through the water and not on top of it. Our boat wont stay on plane at 16. I would definetly speed up once you get ready to progress. later, Clay

19-23, depending on the rider. I pull sone really good riders, and I don't think any of them have asked for anything above 23.

27, man, you're flying!!

I'm with Joe on this one. Sounds perfect to me. Jason goes huge at 27 and 90'. I guess you do what works for you.

yeah that seems fast as hell, i ride at about 65ft and go anywhere from 19-21 depending on water conditions and what trick im trying to work-on, normal riding is 20.5mph though.

Most peeps I know that ride at 80 are in the 23 to 24 mph range. Acutally the PP is set at 23.7.

Keep in mind that PP and the speedos vary from boat to boat. I have no clue how fast I ride. I just adjust the speed to get the best wake. It's slower with less weight, faster with more.

I ride at 83 feet behind a SAN.

90 feet would be nice for width, but I'd have to have around 4000 pounds in the boat to like the wake!

Every once in awhile I let the rope out to 85 but the wake is too small and lippy.

The malibu may however be a different story.

I ride at 75'behind the x-star and 80'behind every other one.If the wake is no good at 80'then I probably won't like your boat.LOL

at 22mph to 24mph depending on the boat.my boat the PP says 22.7mph and for most of the riders is good.few riders asked to be bumped up to no more then 23.5mph and the wake is no good slower then 21mph to 21.5mph depending on the conditions.

I have to agree with Blable,

Each boat( perfect pass ) needs to be calibrated with some sort of GPS system. Then and only then could you really know how fast you ride. 21 mph on 1 boat may be 25mph to another boat. But the actual speed of both may be at 23 mph. So calibrate first but you shouldnt really care what spped you go other than for a reference (starting point) if you go on someone elses boat. Ride at whatever speed feels comfortable to you and whatever speed keeps the wake big and in good shape.

We dont have a speedo, we only use GPS, it stays tacked at 27 LOL

I was riding at 65/21.0 mph and recently increased to 70/21mph. being that I still dont have a full year under my board(belt) I'm not to sure if at 70 I need to increase speed a little or just stay at 65/21.

The 65/21 I started to feel matrix type slow motion in the air, so I figured I was ready to increase the rope length and still have no problem clearing the wake just not sure if I am getting the same height, I do plan to tape this saturday to see if thier is a difference. but what would you guys rec? I have a 05 sanger215 with full ballast. (at 65/21 no ballast feels way to hard like getting bucked!)....

Boat speed ='s rider preference, 19-23mph is what i pull at. It depends on rider skill level, weight, and board length. I ride at 21 1/2 mph all day long. I just paid for my new VLX last night so hopefully i will be in it by the middle of next week. HAPPY RIDIN'

Our old boat an 18.5 Bayliner Capri I'd ride at about 21 with 70' line
Since Ive been behind the new boat it seems better at around 24 to 25 with a 70' line does this seem right or is my speedometer maybe off?
