On the episode of AguaPlease, at 3:37 Phil fires off a hammer labeled in the article as, and definitely looks to be a Moby Dick 10... HOLY CRAP.

I guess it's hard to tell what exactly is going on through these shots, but it's a bit of a quick preview.

Looks like a 7 to me...

I had to look back a few times, and pause at the 180's but there's definitely more than a 7 there.

Honestly, it didnt look like he went upside down and at first I thought it was a w2w bs 10. It says it on the video that it was a moby-dick 10 so I guess they know what they're talking about. Im just baffled at why this wasn't a huge deal once it was landed...

ITS A FRIKIN MOBE 10

Looked like a 7, but maybe it's too much for me to comprehend this early.

I can't tell. They say its a moby dick 1080 on the video description and Phil looks pretty excited. Do you think maybe its time to stop adding spins to a trick when even the educated riders on this forum can't tell how many it is? I still think its a sweet trick and amazing. Not trying to bang or hate just trying to stir the pot.

after slowing this down... definately 3 rotations... PROPS!
Old     (jason95gt)      Join Date: May 2006       11-12-2010, 8:09 AM Reply
The problem is an inverted trick once you start adding another 3 or 7 to it the trick all of a sudden takes the rotation of the original trick into consideration.
Old     (jason95gt)      Join Date: May 2006       11-12-2010, 8:22 AM Reply
The other issue is whether or not they actually get inverted or if it is just way off axis. Amazing non the less.

Not a mobe 10.

BS 10 or mobe 7

7 IMO

Same trick:

Watch how many times he passes the handle behind his back, I only see it passed twice. If a moby dick has one pass, than I'd call this a moby dick 7. Still incredible though!!

moby dick 7. it is confusing on the take off but it's a 720. very very cool though.

why is it that a good amount of the wakeboarding footage shown on fuel is incredibly out dated?

I dont know what it was, in fact I dont care. All I know is it was sick and I cant do it. I just want to give props where props is Due.

Good Work Phil! Looking SOLID!

Yeah that is the same as what WBM was calling a 7 last year.
Old     (rorowake)      Join Date: Oct 2003       11-12-2010, 11:59 AM Reply
It is a moby dick 7, whichever way you want to call it. You dont call a regular moby dick a "moby dick 3", and that is what they are doing to count the 10. Nonetheless, YEA PHIL!

i just watched the video about 10 times and im about 75% sure he ole'd the second handle pass and did get a 10 out of it.
Old     (kyle_L)      Join Date: Mar 2010       11-12-2010, 12:17 PM Reply
i retract my statement and watched every rotation of his board, it spins 7 with no ole. What i though was ole was him pulling with both hands to get the rope going with enough momentum to take him past 5 to 7

Defintaly a 720 not 1080 but still super sick

crazy.. i think it went down like this.

Starts as a moby dick
to ole back 3
to back three

so its really like a moby whirly back three!

It needs a name all its own

Awesome

as most people have said, its a moby dick 7. if this were snowboard halfpipe (no hate intended) it would be a 10.

moby dick 7

tantrum with two handle passes, no ole 3 inbetween so definitely not a mobe 10.

sick none the less but he's done them before.
Old     (lfadam)      Join Date: Nov 2008       11-14-2010, 6:09 PM Reply
watch a video of a moby dick 5, then watch this. Its clear he is adding 180 to that trick, not a 540. it may not technically be inverted or a pass might be kinda funny but looking at the progression of tricks, its safe to say its a Moby Dick 7.
Old     (wakemikey)      Join Date: Mar 2008       11-15-2010, 4:28 PM Reply
3 rotations seems pretty simple to see them all.... Way to go Phil!
Old     (kyle_L)      Join Date: Mar 2010       11-15-2010, 8:02 PM Reply
i still am unsure about it, it really looks like he gets an ole in there especially based on the rotation of the board, in my heart i want to say moby dick 7 but when i watch it enough times and pause it as fast as i can the entire time i count 1080 of spinning.
Old     (kyle_L)      Join Date: Mar 2010       11-15-2010, 8:19 PM Reply
here are my snapshots
photo 1- no spin right foot forward
photo 2- 180 left foot forward
photo 3- 360 right foot forward
photo 4- 540 left foot foward
photo 5- 720 right foot forward
photo 6- 900 left foot forward
photo 7- 1080 right foot forward

i am an idiot an didn't count in the rotation of the invert, in snowboarding it would be a 10 he never gets very inverted in the trick, it is almost looks like how shane and harf do their off axis bs spins. He never really lets the board get completely over his head. Could definitely be called an off axis ole bs 10 but in moby dick terms its a 7
Old     (gnarslayer)      Join Date: Sep 2008       11-15-2010, 11:02 PM Reply
moby dick 7 not moby dick 10... 2 handle passes = 7, there is no ole....

tantrum + backside 7 = moby dick 7 not moby dick 10

either way its still badass, but deff a 7
Old     (westsiderippa)      Join Date: Dec 2006       11-15-2010, 11:30 PM Reply
ok, im sorry but i have watched this thing a hundred times now and im seeing it both ways as kyle^^^ really watch the second 3 its ole. in my eyes im seeing the tantrum started but not over the head, you clearly see the first handle pass 3 then an ole 3 then the 2nd pass for 3. so why are we not calling the second 3 a 3? because its ole? does this somehow break the rules of the dick? sorry im just confused now....... either way bs ole off 10, md10, md 7 what ev its a hammer none of us will ever have!!!!!!!!!
Old     (westsiderippa)      Join Date: Dec 2006       11-15-2010, 11:33 PM Reply
so if it was a true md 10 then that second ole 3 should have been handle passed and more inverted? is that the final consensus?
Old     (holdsworth)      Join Date: Jan 2010       11-16-2010, 5:17 AM Reply
Think of a whirlybird though... the board appears to make 2 full rotations but really it's only a 3... it's just the flip part is slightly sideways. This is a 7 because the flip is slightly off axis.

Im sure if this was a mobe 10 we wouldve heard about it the day the video came out... not a year later
Old     (supernatural)      Join Date: Jan 2008       11-16-2010, 12:42 PM Reply
If your tantrum goes out the back it looks like an ole off back 3. So one of the rotatios that you can see is actually the tantrum out the back. Moby 7 for sure.

“While Phil Soven hammered down the first-ever Moby Dick 1080, all these riders coming together and pushing each others’ limits is what drives the evolution of the sport and sets new boundaries.”

Some people think cucumbers taste better pickled....

Travis, look at the link from a year ago that Luker put up. Egad!! The same website called it a MD 720!!

It must be getting to be winter time around the WakeWorld halls...

I think it is sad that this was on the WB magazine site. Everyone wanting to call every new trick and ole ___ is silly.

It is a moby dick 720--absolutely no doubt. WB mag did a poor job editing.

this is def a 7 guys. i agree with the comment above that if it were on snow it would be a 10, but this isnt snowboarding is it? And the debate begins.

Hahaha... I'm honestly kinda blown away this thread is still alive. There is absolutely no argument this trick is a mobe 10. Let it die!
