I added 3500lbs of ballast to my 05 X-Star and it's pretty sluggish now and has more trouble holding speed. Any suggestions for which prop to use?

I have a 06 star with MCX and run the OJ 14.25×14.5 and run around 2500 ballast. Works great. You will also have to go into your PP settings and make a couple adjustments. How are u running 3500 in the star (weight placement)?

You are correct. I was going from memory. I believe the correct number is 2305. Acme has an employee named Jim if you need technical information. Tell him what you want to accomplish, and he will recommend the right prop to do the job. He recommended the 2305 for us, and it made the X-star (old hull) with the 350 motor able to carry a lot of weight. That same prop also worked very well on the x-25 hull. Sorry for the mistake.

Anyways I have one for sale. Like new condition. Call me if you want to pursue this. (408)309-6062

ah, yes, the 2305. that does seem to be a new popular prop to put on an MCX motor. I'm about ready to pull the trigger on one, only thing holding me back is worry about the tacking of that new prop - what RPMs were you running at 23/24 mph with alot of weight? I've got the 14.25x14.5 and it struggles when we're really slammed

What about the Acme 2195? Anyone have experience with that prop?

The Acme 2195 (14.5"x12") has 0.5" less diameter and a tad less cup than the Acme 2305 (15"x12"). It is really a trailer clearance issue. The boat should have plenty of clearance. That and price. Will you get more out of the 15" prop? Enough to justify the price increase? In my opinion the Acme 2195 would work great.

So this prop is 1/4 more diameter than my 14.25x14.5?

Yes it's a quarter inch bigger. The first number is your prop diameter and second number is pitch, so currently you have a 14 1/4" diameter and 14.5 pitch. It's easier to talk in terms of these numbers as the manufactures model number doesn't mean much.

As far as prop for your MCX you need to drop pitch and get a bigger one, I ran a 14.75 x 13 in that boat with that motor for a long time, it worked fine and for sure will be an improvement on your stock prop. I just bought Pete's 15x12 and can write up the difference form the 14.75x13 once I get it, I have the Ilmor 6.0 now though so it's not apples to apples. I don't expect that much of a difference between the two and wouldn't have made the switch if I didn't actually need a new prop.

As far as getting 3500#'s of ballast to get out of the whole with the MCX, you won't period if that's on top of factory ballast. That's past the limit of what that engine can do, doesn't matter where you put that weight or what prop you have it just won't do it. First make sure you actually have 3500#s + stock, if you added the flyhigh MC bags designed for the Xstar you added 2 - 720s, and 2 -250s = 1940 + 1000 stock = 2940 total. There is some give and take there but that's approx what you have with that set up. Maybe you have a 1500 on the floor?

How I ran my Xstar with the MCX was stock + over flow kit + 350/400 in bow. It'll plan all day on a full tank of gas like that with 2-3 people in the boat. Add more people and you have to drain some out of the back tanks. 5-6 people run the rear over flows 75% full.

You can play around with it but I can tell you from experience it just wont get there, I thought adding bow weight would help but it doesn't. You'll just get stuck in the 15-16 mph range.

Also you need to adjust your Perfect Pass to hold speed, it the DNS setting or something I can't remember exactly. Just call Perfect Pass tech support and tell them what you need, they'll now exactly what you are talking about.

I just went from flyhigh 400s in rear to sumo 600s. I never fill the stock 250s unless I need to balance out a bit. Up front I always run KGB and another 540 in the walkway up front. Now that I'm running 1200 in rear compared to 800 should I run a couple hundred more up front?

Xstar is best rear end heavy I would just try it with the 600s and see what happens.

I run the ACME 1285 4 Blade 14.5" x 14.25" Propeller, with close to 4000. It's uses the rpms and messes with the perfect pass fully loaded, but no real complaints.

Cheers,

What's the part# for the 14.75x13 splined version?
