I had ski safe on my first boat, great company, but they insisted I have a lay up period of 3 months? I filed one claim with them, they responded very quickly and paid even faster.

i have my new XLV insurance through them, it was $460 a year vs $800 a year with allstate, don't know much about them other than that the price was good and i go them by going through gieco.

I have Ski Safe. My boat is only insured for 9 months out of the year and it is not insured for saltwater use. I don't remember a "mandatory" 3 month layup period, though. I think it just costs less to do it that way. It works perfectly for me since my boat sits in the garage during the winter.

The only thing I don't like is I have to subscribe to USA Waterski

The price is right, though. I pay somewhere in the neighborhood of $250/year. I have yet to file a claim *knock on wood* so I can't help you there.

I have Ski SAfe also. They told me 4 months high and dry. Cant beat the price they gave me and you pay it all up front, one time.

I've had my last 2 boats with them, good price. it has a 3 month winter period but I live in Oregon so thats no problem. I had one claim about 3 years ago and they were great, had my check in about 2 weeks and no troubles.

Sorry - it looks like the layup period is mandatory. It's been 6 years since I dealt with them, so I was a little fuzzy on the details.

I've had Skisafe for 3 years and I've never filed a claim.

My premium is somewhere around $325/year for a 2001 SAN.

My layup period is November 1 through March 1....I'm sure of that because I just checked it last weekend when I went out. You can use your boat during the layup period.

If you wish to use your boat during the layup period, you just call them and let them know you will be using it and your rate will be adjusted. Not sure of the amount. I think I've only done it once for a day and I don't recall ever getting an invoice.

They don't charge you extra for using your boat during the layup period. The only stipulation is that you have to inform them ahead of time for each and every day of use if you want coverage. I found out that you can establish layup coverage by leaving a voicemail after hours with your name, policy number, etc. I think they're a great company, but I haven't had a claim yet (knock wood).

I've had SkiSafe for 2 years with 1 large claim the first year. Excellent service and fast payment!

For any veterans/ reserve/ active duty military out there, USAA insurance is really cheap. I called them the other day, and they want $250/ year. My current insurance is $480/ year. 50% off is a great thing.

I currently have my truck through them, and they were half of 21st Century for that too.

geeze, I have ski safe, but never realized there was a layup period. I live in texas, have a boat dock, and use the boat year round. Looks like I need to shop around

OK probably dumb question, but what is a lay-up period?

When you fill out the form to get a quote you can mark used all year or summer only. They told me summer only means you don't use the boat for 4 months, difference was $520 vs $420. We put the boat up Dec, Jan, Feb and most of March anyway. Thanks for the input it's a lot cheaper than what I have now even if I got it all year.

Rats. What is your liability and deductibles for such good rates? I just had them quote me for a 1990 Malibu, and it was $347 per year, which seems high if Jeff can get it for $325 for a 2001 SAN. I had them quote $300K for liability with a $500 deductible.

I checked what we pay: $347/year with $300K liability, $500 deductible on a '99 Response. I'm pretty sure it's not insured for salt water use.

I just got a quote for $278 a year with a 4 month lay-up period for a 2000 Moomba Mobius. I'm in Tennessee. The CSR I spoke with said the lay-up wasn't mandatory. She said that it just discounted the price of the policy.

I double checked my premium and I was a little off. I pay $395/year for my 2001 SAN. I apologize for the error. I've got a $500 deductible as well. I don't recall what the liability is but I'm sure it's the $300k as everyone else has stated. My policy specifically excludes salt water use.

Well, swass has the exact same deductible, same liability, same rate, but his is 9 years newer than mine. Hmmmmm. Sounds like I'd be paying high for a boat that is worth $9K and trailer that is $1K.

Jamn's boat is 10 years newer, but about $70 less. What is your deductible and liability?

it is pretty hard to compare policies like this isnt it? considering that a lot of factors go in to the price of the policy like your driving record, your claims record, age, sex, marital status, credit score... all those things can effect a quote considerably.... keep that in mind when you may be comparing your quote to someone elses

My coverage was $300K with a $500 deductible. I am 47 years old and have been a boat owner since 1984. No saltwater.

Hope this helps,
Jman

Jman,

So same liability and deductible. I'm 10 years younger, but my boat is 10 years older than yours. Maybe we have to pay more in AZ because of having the highest per capita boat owners in the nation (ironic isn't it when you live in the desert), so the reservoirs are crowded.
