I just got a call from Zane and he told me Derek Grasman just broke his leg about 30 minutes ago. He broke his TibFib between his knee and ankle they said it looked like another knee.
Good thing is at least he has all winter to rehab and get better for next season.
Good Luck Derek.

Ouch hope he gets better soon. Didn't he get knocked out or broke his neck at a pro tour a few years back?

Derek is due to have surgery today at 4pm.
Squid, Derek fell off a balcony a couple of years ago and jammed his neck.

Billy,
how did he break his leg? I just called him and left a vm. I don't assume that I'll hear anything right away if he went in surgery an hour ago. What the heck, he was riding so well lately, I just saw him a week ago. Dang.

jeez...not a good couple of weeks. Parks, now Grasman. Harsh, but i guess were fortunate that we dont hear of these injuries more frequently given the nature of this sport we all participate in. Best of luck Derek!

Derek has been killing it with 2 720s, whirly 5s, crow 5s, bs 5s on lock and he'll be sure to get back in form quickly!! Thanks for thinking of him I will see him in a bit and show him the posts!!

Zane has a 07 XStar,
Dereks surgery went good, he is just really hating life right now, he has a rod in his leg and is in quite a bit of pain. Derek is a tough kid and in time he will back on the water for sure. Derek also appreciates all the feedback and thoughts.

I guess the latest is that Derek had some complications with a damaged artery in his leg and had no pulse in his foot. They fixed it up, but he's in ICU until today I believe.

I visited Derek yesterday in ICU and brought him a can of Skoal that he requested. The nurses werent too pumped about him spittin in a cup in ICU, but none the less looked the other way. His leg wounds in the pics are still open on each side from the second surgery. The docs cant sew them shut until the swelling goes down. Derek is pretty bummed right now and it makes his day to get visitors. They are not real sure when he is going home, once they give him an exact day that should cheer him up. When I was there yesterday the little guy that brings Derek his lunch came in and when he went to slide the table over Dereks bed he accidently Rammed it into his leg!!
I was laughing but Derek was shouting in pain "YOU F#*%ing IDIOT!!!"
I will try and keep everyone posted on Dereks progress.

He sent me that pic s well, and I told him I didnt think they made cathaders that small. When I first saw the pic I thought someone took a pic of a worm and fishing line.

i can't imagine how awful that would be - breaking your leg - and THEN hitting the water!! it's making me queasy just thinking about it.
I hope the recovery is nice and straightforward. best of luck...

wow mark, those are some crazy pics, who did u get those from?

The pics came from Derek. Some he took the others he had the nurses do. They all were done with his phone.
I visited him last night, the vascular doc had just closed about half of the wound on one side of his leg and about 1/3 on the other side. When the swelling goes down they will be able to close the rest.
He had a pretty rough evening to say the least.
Derek has been reading all of the posts on here and says thanks to everyone, and that it was not a booger in his nose, just his nostril.

Yup, direct from DG. I've been talking to him pretty regulary, despite the situation a positivie is that he's been able to spend a lot of time with his mom, girfriend and her family, which has meant a lot to him. He tries to act tough be he's just a little teddy bear. and will more than likely punch me for posting the above.

Hey, does anybody know how Derek Grasman is doing? Is he still in the hospital or is he out? Whats his recovery time? Will he be ok? Thanks.
Old     (woreout)      Join Date: Aug 2006       10-12-2007, 6:21 AM Reply
Derek got out of the Hospital on Wednesday. In a text message sent to me by Derek, he informed me that he was leaving and told the staff at the hospital "Adios Douchebags" I would say he was happy to get out.
He still has a lot of PT to go through but he will be alright.

I hope he is doing better now that he is at home. I know everyone hates being in the hosptial and loves the feel of sleeping in their own bed a lot more. I hope he gets back to his normal self soon.
