Hey All,

I am interested in knowing how often you ride and IF the more you ride the faster your riding improves (in your experience).

You can't get better at something by not doing it.

Once a week or so in the summer. At times it will be twice in a week and other times not for 3 weeks at a time. You're riding ability (see number of tricks) definitely depends on your God given talent but much more so on your time on the water and your pain tolerance!

2-3 times a week, until it got cold and rainy up here in WA state... now it's been 5 days since we had sun and I last rode.

And YES, the more often you ride, the faster your skills improve... unless your some sort of prodigy or phenom... then who needs practice, your the shiz.

Unfortunately, I need all the practice I can get. lol

I guess the more you ride, within the limits of your fitness, the faster you can progress, but a lot depends on whether or not you know what you are trying to do better and have a clue about how to accomplish it. There is no dirth of helpful advice from my crew, but even great advice might not get thru if it isn't put the right way. A lesson or a camp with pro instructors is the best way to set yourself up to use your time on the water to greatest advantage.

As for riding time, does thinking about it count? If so I ride every day. We get out as much as we can, a couple times a week on average during May thru Sept, and sporadically in April and October. Riding time varies a lot depending on how many people we have (usually 5 to 7 riders) and how much time (all day or just after school). If I get 2 twenty minute sets I feel very fortunate. I don't think my riding time is sufficient to make much progress, but I enjoy it all anyway. Usually, just about the time I figure something out its getting dark, the water is rough, and I'm too beat up and tired to take advantage of it. I file it in my data base, vow to spend more time in the gym and hope I can remember it the next time I ride.

Okay now the follow up to that question.

this is for the weekend riders

In your experience if you were to ride every weekend (fri-night, sat -fullday, sun-fullday) for a full season do you think your riding will improve?

Everyday in the summer and several times a week when I have school.

Of course your riding will improve riding 3 times a week all year. I just depends on how fast you will improve. There are some things that just take time to learn. You have to get a good feeling for the board and know how your body is going to react, that is why trampolines are good.

Saffer - Absolutely you will improve riding that much. It's been my experience that I need to ride at least once every 2 weeks just to MAINTAIN where I am. I would have to ride a lot more than that to get better and make new tricks consistent.

I did 50 hrs this summer... not as much as I wanted but I guess thats what you get when you work from 7am-6pm. I also was working on the lake as a ski boat driver/coach and got a couple of sets in in addition to my 50 hrs. Still kinda lame the amount that I got out. But hey, anything is better than nothing.

I worked all summer from 10pm-8am 6-7 days a week (yea, crazy hours) and put 150 on the boat.
