Hi
I heard a strange ticking noise on my boat yesterday, at the beginning of the day it was not there, I started to notice it about half hour later, I think I have heard it the previous weekend but it was quitter, almost unnoticeable, My boat it’s a 2001 Supra Santera with 470 hrs. I believe it’s like a transmission generated sound, but not sure, it sounds when the transmission is engaged in but running very slow like when you are picking up the rider, when I start going a little faster I can’t hear it, so it does not increase with the speed or load and can be hidden by the engine sound, any suggestions of what to look for or If I should worry about it.

Thanks

sounds like the rubber bushing/bearing at the strut where the shaft comes thru.... next time lube that area up well w/ wd-40 or power lube and see if it stops.. if so have it repl... same thing on my 00' Supra Launch

My indmar engine once made a ticking noise...came to find the fuel injectors would tick after the boat had been run hard.

My '08 Outback ticks when its cold. After it warms up it goes away. 100 hours so far and it hasn't been an issue. I'll probably have the dealer check it out when we have it winterized.

You might check the dip stick in the tranny, mine is slightly bent and in certain positions it makes a noise rubbing on rotating components, turn it a bit and the noise is gone.

Good luck..

I would check the v-drive to driveshaft coupler. If your engine needs aligning then it may have "jumped" around and caused one or two of the four bolts to be become loose and cause a tick upon each rotation. open the hatch and feel down there. Happened on my 07 bu.

Stuck valve lifters make a ticking sound, but you will hear that when the engine is idling in and out of gear at idle, but the sound will be drowned out at high RPMs. Just another possibility, though based on your description drive train seems more likely.

Good Luck.
