Been riding a slingshot recoil. I do well on that board, however I just broke my 4th one. I'm thinking I want to get away from wood core as they break really easy. I ride at 21.6 on an 08 xstar. I do not have a brand preference. Since I'm not in an area close to a board shop I though I would ask for some input. Thanks.

I find wood cores are stronger than foam cores. If you're breaking slingshots, you'll break anything. That's my opinion.

What year recoils have you been riding and where are they breaking?

The last one I broke was a 2013. It is not that the wood is breaking anywhere. The mounting track gets bent up out of the board. Years ago (2008 ish) i used to ride foam boards and never broke one. Perhaps new foam boards are weaker?

what specifically is breaking? the core itself? or the track mounting system? (seen a bunch of issues with that)

They have improved the track system in the later year boards. I suspect you wouldn't have any issues with a 2014+.

The track is breaking. The metal gets pulled out of the wood and bend up right were my boots are mounted. Too many face plants I guess. The design changed in 2014? I was looking at a 2015 online and it seemed to look the same as my 2013.

I can't remember exact years, but the tracks tearing out was a problem for a while and slingshot actively made changes to strengthen it.

FWIW, I've not seen a Slingshot with a ripped out fast track in recent years.

Try the 2015 Ronix One ATR Carbon… it's a really light weight & really fast board. its also just as flexible as the slingshot recoil, but it has a really strong core.
