I own a 1994 Sanger DLX direct drive. I have a new cable to install but the ripoff boat service companies want up to 102 dollars per hour at 3 - 5 hours. beat it!!! What do they think they are attorneys or something? Has anyone ever installed a steering cable before n there boat? Is it easy? I am fairly handy when it comes to fixing things.

thanks!

man dont pay that. its easy in three hours you can have it installed. all you have to do is....

1 - un bolt your steering cable from the rudder
2 - un bolt your steering cable from the steering wheel
3 - tie a string to the steering cable end (at the rudder)
4 - pull the steering cable out from the steering wheel end (with string attached)
5 - get the number off of the steering cable (probably teleflex)
6 - order new steering cable from internet (try boatfix.com) just type in steering calbe number, I just ordered one for $90
7 - tie end to string and pull through (routing it through same area as the old one)
8 - bolt back on just like the old one.

I just did this one month ago on my dd, and i also put on a seadog rubber boot on the end of the cable. boatfix sells that as well. Now there might be a cheaper place but that was the cheapest that i found.
