Hi guys had a pretty hard slam about 2-3 weeks ago keep up short on a tantrum after hitting two wakes. I was out of action and work for 3 days with ice and elevation and i couldnt walk, Drs said there was too much swelling to diagnose so i went back at a later point.

It was very stiff and fairly unstable on the inside of the joint. With a bit of research i figured it could be my MCL or meniscus however since revisiting the Dr he said my ligaments and tendons are strong but he thinks i could have torn my knee capsule??? it seems like a fairly unusual injury because i cant find anything for it on the internet or any guidance,

He said lay off it for around 6 weeks, but i can just about run now after 2 weeks and have full range of movement, is your knee capsule a serious injury? it took me about 2 weeks to get back to full movement it hurts a little bit if my foot twist outwards against the knee. might give wakeboarding a try soonish just to strengthen it witout doing any inverts or wake jumps anyone recommend any suggestions.

Thanks

Listen to your doctor and do some physio to make sure its strong enough to ride. The worst thing you could do is get back on it too soon and possibly hurt it worse.

My advice, listen to your doctor. I an a year post op on my ACL. I tore my MCL at the same time. Knees suck when they are hurt, make sure yours is healed before you do anything that might re-injure it again/worse.

Good luck.

it wouldn't hurt to get a 2nd opinion, or insist on getting an MRI - just to be sure you haven't done anything else...

I think it would be very difficult to actually tear your capsule without injuring anything else in your knee. If you dont have any clicking popping or catching in your knee then its not a meniscus injury and if it is its not a very serious one. The "unstable" feeling inside the knee is fairly common with ligament injuries sorry to say. Not to take anything away from your doctor but if he didnt test the integrity of the ligaments or meniscus i personally would get a second opinion unless hes a sports doctor. I would say visit an athletic trainer since they know all the tests and deal with sports injuries, but i might just think that since that is what im studying

also the lots of swelling part is common with ACL's, not all ACL tears cause excruciating pain like alot of people think. not to scare ya or anything just lettin ya know

The Dr was an Accident and emergency dr and he did all the ligament stress tests and said they felt exactly like the other leg this was after 2 weeks when all the swelling had gone down.

But there was a little bit of fluid which the dr said might explain the laxity if it was impact because i could have torn the capsule. also its the inside of the leg that felt loser surely that wouldnt be ACL? Theres no popping clicking or catching. deffinately feeling better and better every day now and i have weight on it everyday all day. I can lightly jog now. 4 more weeks seems a lot before doin activity.

look up www.frequencyspecific.com . go to practitioners. see if there is anyone in your area. i used this on a guy who played for the Eagles. in 4 weeks i got him from crutches to practicing w the team...right before the superbowl. he played the superbowl. btw, he was told his only option was surgery.
if there isnt, send me a PM .

I agree with Alice, a 2nd opinion might be a good idea since your 1st Dr. was not an ortho. specialist. Not trying to tell you what to do or anything but I had a similar experience.

The first Dr. that looked at my knee was a general Dr. at a ski resort hospital clinic. He said I didn't tear anything and had a bad sprain. I had NO pain, and a little swelling and instability like you so I was pretty pumped and believed him. After 10 days of resting it there was little improvement so I went to an ortho. specialist. All I did was mention instability and he ordered an MRI. Unfortunately in my case it turned out to be completely torn ACL and severe meniscus damage. I was told I could wait to have surgery but it would leave my knee super vulnerable if I did any activities beyond walking. So if it is more than a sprain, riding too soon could make it way worse.

Good Luck :-)
