Outdrive switch wont lower motor HELP

Hey, I've got a '01 Bayliner 195, and the switch to lower the motor makes a clicking sound, but fails to lower the drive which left us stranded in the middle of the lake. Also, just before we were stranded, we were having trouble with the boat leveling out and moving forward--like doing a tailstand at high rpm's w/out much movement. Any help appreciated...

It's either the solenoid between the switch and the trim motor or the trim motor itself. Take out the solenoid and hook the two wires dirrectly together. Also, check the brushes/wiring on the trim motor.

That use to happen to me all the time.

when you say take out the solenoid and hook the two wires together how can i identify which two wires .. looks like there is a group of wires coming in from the side through a water proof connector then other wires hooked up to other areas? I dont want to cook something any help appreceated thanks tyler

The solenoid on mine only had like 3 or 4 wires going to and from it. To make sure not to damange anything, pull the solenoid off and put use a meter to detect which wires raise and lower the unit. If you get the wrong wire it will just raise/lower it the opposite of what you're trying to do.

If you still can't get it to work try www.iboats.com and search the forums. They were pretty helpful when I had an outboard.

Check your owners manual or Bayliner service department, it/they will indicate which screws on your outdrive will allow you to manually lift the outdrive, you will get wet, and it's a pain in the rear, and you will block the ramp, but if stuck on the lake it's sometimes your only option to get it back on the trailer. Good luck!

It might be easier/smarter to troubleshoot it at your house and not at the ramp.
