The Chronicles of Cablestock

About 3 weeks ago I was just browsing through my email, which usually means me pressing the delete button as fast as I can because all I get is junk. Right below an email about FREE VIAGRA!, was an email that read “congrats!” I assumed that it was some junk mail saying I won a free vacation with a small down payment; but right before I pressed the delete button I noticed the email looked like it was from someone from liquid force. I decided to open the email, and within seconds of reading the email I was running around the house screaming at the top of my lungs “I won!.” It turned out I won the grand prize for the LF/TSR rail design contest and I was going to get a free vacation to cablestock to ride the slider based off my design!

After convincing my professors to change the date of my finals, I was on a plane headed to Austin, Texas. Upon my arrival I was taxied to TSR on a sweet looking liquid force RV. However, a 2x4 took out the drain pipe for the toilet as we were driving down the highway, so the RV looked cool just didn’t smell the greatest. Within 30 minutes of being at TSR I got to go on a helicopter ride, I won a 2008 LF Witness, and also received a LF board bag and life vest. Within an hour of being at TSR I was riding the cable with Shane Bonifay, Colin Harrington, and Kevin Henshaw! The rest of my stay at TSR was consumed by hanging out all day in the sun and riding cable with some of the funniest people I have ever meet.

I read posts on wakeworld about how people go to boat shows and get a chance to talk to pros while they are there, and most the time people say the pros are really nice and down to earth. However, every time I read these posts I have always wondered if it is just an act pros put on because they kind of have to, and me personally I have never really hung out with a pro for more than an hour so I had no reason to think otherwise. But, now that I have been around these pros for more than an hour; I have seen that these pros are not acting at boat shows and they are really nice and down to earth guys. Within my short weekend trip to TSR I meet tons of truly genuine people that represent our sport well.

This was my first trip to TSR, and the place blew me away. It is an action sports paradise with a cable, boat lake, skate park, and motocross track. As I first arrived at TSR I thought I would just be some kid that won a contest that can barely hit his own slider design. However, everyone there was really cool to me and some of the best riders there were willing to go out of there way to help me out on the cable. This trip to cablestock was truly unforgettable and has changed my whole outlook on the sport in a positive way.
