Is there something wrong with this diagram? I replaced an amp and moved the second battery. I wired everything like it was (I think). Why would there be 2 positives and 2 negatives going to the second battery. Everything is playing fine but there is a loud pop when I turn the system off. When I cut power with the perko, there is noise in the speakers. Can a perko go bad? Is this right and I have a grounding issue elsewhere? Any help would be appreciated. ThanksUpload

Try this, you are wired wrong using the above diagram. Also, if more than 1200 watts coming out of amps when wattage is combined, then run two sets of power and ground wires (one for each amp)

David,
Thanks. But, why is it wired wrong? This is how it has been wired for the last 3 yrs. Is this about using the starting battery for starting only? If the battery is in position #1, what effect does this have on the amps and the breaker inline to the amps? Thanks.

It's wired wrong in that the power to the amps is tapped off the perko switch, tap the power directly from the battery + terminal directly to the amps (using a breaker or fuse as close to the battery as possible).

If Perko the switch is in position one, the only battery getting the alternators charge is battery 1. (When the engine is running) When switched to battery 2, only battery 2 is getting the alternators charge. Newer perko switches also have a position labeled "both" so it combines the charge to both batteries. There are other battery combiners out there, like the Yandina 100 or Hellroaring that do this switching automatically.
