I HAVE AN ANTIQUE WAKEBOARD, USE IT???

Well its not really antique, its a CWB lithium from around 2000.It has a 1.75" fin on each end. I am looking into new bindings right now, considering a closed toe option. Im 5'11" and around 160 lbs. that is so far from an antique it makes me sick. Ride it!

I know I can def ride it, but what im asking is will I be able to progress faster with a newer board? Are the new designs more advanced to the point that it will be easier to learn new tricks?

Ride it man... only thing that can tell you if it will is you. Completely psychological. You want to progress like crazy on that thing? You can, and will.

Antique? That's not even uni-directional! Just ride the thing and if you're unhappy with it, try something new.

dude that board has some pretty tight graphics for being 8 years old. id ride it for sure.

if you want to save money, you'll be able to ride it and learn. But there is a reason why NO boards today are shaped like that.

Heck, my favorite and most ridden boards are still my '98 & '00 O'Brien Phattys...

Ride what you like, or ride what you have... If you're lucky, it's the same board. I know a brand new board isn't going to turn this old man into a pro, so I don't even think about regearing every year or two... Now, once I break my last Phatty(hopefully not for a very long time), I'll be looking for a new "favorite" board.

Thats what i was thinking. I learned on this board. I know it is perfectly fine for wake to wake, surface 3's, and other basics. Im actually just wondering if it is gonna take longer to progress on. I dont want to spend 2 months out of the summer on this board to learn that the things i was tryin to learn are much easier on a newer board. I do like the graphics though haha.

Chris, board technology has vastly improved. A newer board is not going to turn you into a pro but it will make it easier to progress.

A better wake, better bindings, and better board are all factors in you getting better. You can still get better if you're riding a 99 board with 99 bindings and you're behind an I/O but it will be easier to get better if you have better things. (from my experience.)

not trying to start anything but i just took a second peek at the liquid force press. thought it was kinda funny. i know this doesn't help anyone but it sure does do a lot for self gratification.

Ur definitely right though. The 2008 Press is pretty similar. What was liquid force thinking. too bad Proho isn't a board designer, sounds like he knows something they don't Or maybe he doesn't know something they do?

and by the way, my sister won't ride any other board other than this one. It's a '99

justin i completely understand that and again i am not trying to flame anyone. it was all in interest of jest. with that said, the shape of the board was all that was in question. no one said anything of what type of board it was supposed to be. and...the emphasis he placed on the "NO" seems pretty inclusive to me. ok i am reading in to this way too much now. i got studying to do.

i'll back u up there jerbul. He did put the imphasis on the NO, and he obviously had little to no knowledge to back up his statement.

Oh, I would totally ride it too...I was simply stating the fact that they are different kinds of boards.
I remember when they were selling this board and that isn't that long ago.
Ride it...until you get a new board and then use this one as a slider board.

I have an antique wakeboard- a Hyperlite Twin tip! I think it says XP on the top and that's it. The underside has a bunch of round, convex cup shapes I suppose to elevate the board in the water. it's also about 160cm long! As far as I can tell- this board will make a great bench and that's about it! ( Oh yeah- I got it in 1996- I think that qualifies as antique!)

Thanks alot for all of these replies, I finally found a helpful message board! I'm not going to be insulted by anyones opinions so wouldn't worry about that. Basically I'm now set on riding the board with new bindings until I know exactly what I want. I guess this thread is starting to turn into a difference between the old and new geometry of wakeboard design.
Anyone have any facts or opinions about NEW vs OLD design Geometry, ie:the way they handle, pop, etc?

Chris, it has more to do with better boats. Better boats make bigger wakes. Bigger wakes need bigger rocker lines, bigger spines for softer landings, and so on.

if you are sakin out your boat and riding bigger wakes, you will want to get a board that can handle it.

WOW, I didnt even think about how boat technology has changed, good call.

Isn't that board the previous year's pro model with different graphics? Mfg's tend to do that. If it is, I think that shape is the first CWB I rode. I learned three tricks on that board included my first 540. And it was the wrong size for me too. Don't let people discourage you from riding old shapes. If it feels good, ride it. Keep in mind, people have been riding big wakes since the mid to late 90's (earlier for all I know) and you should see some of the crap people were doing back then.

I've ridden a lot of boards over the years and honestly I can't say I've progressed significantly with any shape since leaving the flight 69. I enjoy some of the technological advancements but nothing has made me a better rider.

Find a board you like and go with it.

here is what I learned on

I have a 98 Juvi 131 That I rode on until last year when I bought the lotus, Now the Juvi is has pro signatures on the bottom of it and is on my mantle for decoration in my house.

I still have a one tail pointed nose with the little bubbles cut in the bottom its a hyperlite or ho not sure it is eric perez

Neptune, Didnt straightline make those if I remenber correctly,,,,
