Ben do you mean polyester vs epoxy resins? The cost differential I'm strictly guessing is a cost of the formulation and chemicals involved. Principally though they have different chemical properties and uses. You use Epoxy over EPS blanks - Polyester resin will destroy EPS, but Polyester is fine over Polyurethane blanks. The switch to EPS as a core is requiring the switch from the previous construction methods that used polyester resins. Typically an eps core board with epoxy resin is said to be lighter and stronger than a comparable polyu and polyester resin board. Also, epoxy doesn't give off the toxic fumes that polyester resin with MEKP catalyst does. More than anything though...if you are using an EPS blank as your core, the only real choice is epoxy to laminate.
