There are some speed / GPH charts out there on the internet for many inboards - don't have time to search and didn't keep the link, but the main point is that the curve is bimodal, most efficient at idle or just above idle (3-5MPH), and at around 24-28MPH (near 3K RPMs). If you are wakeboarding with weight, you can gain some efficiency by repropping so you are in the 'sweet spot' RPM at your normal balast and speed.
