Anyone have any under helm shots of the F21 or F23 tomcat? I'm trying to get an idea of under dash storage (stereo space ) ... havent been able to find any online.

i dont like how the green graphic on the above boat does not go above the rub rail in the rear, but it continues above the rail in the front. looks bad, like it is a mistake. I noticed this is how its done with this graphic. the other graphics continue above the rail, not sure whats up with this.
Old     (ProvoMB52)      Join Date: Nov 2011       02-04-2012, 9:27 PM Reply
Johnny, you're wrong about the graphic ending below the rub rail being all about this graphic package. This would have been a customer, or dealer spec. If you'll look at other versions of the swoosh graphic, you can see the full graphic design.

I dig the TOMCAT name since the picklefork resembles a tomcat.

Finally got a chance to stop by Reboats Utah and see the 2012 F21 up close. So the pic that I posted with the flake on the nose looks so much better in person! They already sold it so they ordered another with the lighter gray flake for the X and the nose, I can't wait to see it! They just had a vendor come and pick up a F21 that will be doing some insane changes to the boat for the show. Don't quote me but something about $20,000 in extra demo stuff just to show off at the boat show!
ALRIGHT question about the new placement of the batteries in the walkway to the bow. If you have been boating you have been somewhere where that boat took a lot of water over the bow for one reason or another. Does that compartment have a drain somewhere and what will it do to the batteries if full of water. I'm talking worse case of course, I have only been in 1 where a lot of water came over by mistake.
Overall every change was for the better and makes sense... Next step will be riding the 2012 with the 343 and seeing if the 409 is really needed when we just run 450 over stock in the nose. I have a feeling the 343 will be just fine...
Huge thanks to Jason over at www.reboatsutah.com for letting us climb, touch, pull, move, look, tinker and drool over the new F21. Next stop UT Boat Show this week...
Old     (johnny_defacto)      Join Date: Sep 2006       02-04-2012, 10:03 PM Reply
beasley. maybe I am wrong about that graphic design, but there are 3 different boats on this thread that are from atleast 2 different states, one is from utah posted by downfortheride, another by surffresh looks like its in Oklahoma, and another by downfortheride that may be from the same dealer as the black and white utah boat.

whatever it is, it looks like a mistake. if its a customer ordered boat, then fine, they can do it however they choose, but if its a dealer ordered boat, that dealer needs to stop ordering it that way.

The new battery compartment drains to the bilge.

That was a custom ordered boat, 100%, the owner then put 25k into the stereo, LED's, and custom billet, Jon, I just listed and sold it for the guy.

GD ~ I really do like the names of the boats... I was worried about the TOMCAT down the side with the bigger MB in back. After seeing it in person yesterday it's super sick and great placement. I'm really excited to see the B52 since I haven't been in one yet. MB has a white one like the pic above that I will bring a rag to go look at it.

^^^ I think the F refers to the fighter plane distinction (e.g. F14 Tomcat) only in this case it's F21 for 21 feet long.

55k and 65k in Denver. Both boats had the cavitation plate, metallic gel coat and the 23 had the upgraded engine.

Now that prices have appeared, if you wanted a SAN 230 or an Xstar you would need to add 100K to MSRP right?

I don't get it.

BTV ~ I would say it's all on what you want to pay for. Reboats is the only dealer that I have seen to gamble on the nose flake. Seems to be a huge hit here in UT since they ordered one for the boat show and it already sold. Had to order another to make the boat show.

How about who's really a fan of the flake? Since Travis Moyes all gold flake X Star I was sold on seeing it more and more... Now an all flaked one might be a little much but I'm really liking how manufactures are bringing it has a accent or a little bolder.
Old     (wakereviews)      Join Date: Sep 2006       02-07-2012, 9:13 AM Reply
I'd think that if you pay for the boat upfront and want all metallic, MB would probably make it for you. Figure the metallic gel is probably more expensive so there would be an extra cost.
Old     (SkySki)      Join Date: Feb 2010       02-07-2012, 10:51 AM Reply
More labor costs than anything. I went to on the factory tour and the way it was explained to me, the clear gets shot first, then the metal flake, then all the other gel colors you pick over the top. So, there is one extra step because you have to tape and shoot the extra clear. I am going off of memory, but I think that is how it works. I am sure others will have a better explanation if needed.
Old     (BTV)      Join Date: Jul 2010       02-07-2012, 11:20 AM Reply
Thanks guys. I am a big fan of flake and was disappointed when I was told they would only do the X. Guess I need to visit dealer again or better yet take a trip to factory.

What is the appeal to they keyless ignition? I have not seen a need for it. On some boats it adds another step to starting the engine.

after having it for so long, it will be hard to live without. No keys to lose, no keys to forget, i let friends use my boat some times, and i dont have to worry about them needing the keys etc... It's a nice feature... not exactly somethign i would say is just fluff...

Build quality not the same, but you pay a ton more for Nautique. That being said, nothing wrong with build quality of MB, probably best in its price class.

I'm sure keyless ignition is a nice feature but I don't know how much I would personally care. I don't ever take the keys out of my ignition in the first place. Maybe if I left it on a lift or had it at a dock but I trailer everywhere I go.

Guy asked about MB quality versus his Nautique. I told him. I know this is an MB site and I'm not here to debate matters of opinion. I am a P.Eng-licensed mechanical engineer who specializes in the reverse engineering of industrial machinery in order to make quality and functional improvements. I have done a fellowship at NASA and have licensed patents to both GE and Siemens for use in their rotating equipment.

I have owned CC for 12 years and have had a MB on the dock next to mine since 2006, spanning 3 different model years.

In my opinion, the overall build quality, materials and processes used, and reliability of CC exceeds that of MB.
Old     (polarbill)      Join Date: Jun 2003       02-10-2012, 3:18 PM Reply
This isn't an MB site. It just happens that this site is based around wakeboarders mostly and not semi retired doctors, lawyers and engineers. A lot of people on this site value good quality and great wakes/waves which right now MB is doing better then anyone else for the price.

No offense but engineers are pains in the ass that overthink everything and usually don't do very good at applying it to real world situations. It takes a rare breed of engineer to actually get over himself and realize they aren't the smartest person in the room all the time. Unless a company is truely pushing the limits and always tryign to make the next innovation there is not that much engineering that goes into these boats in my opinion. I think MB saved money on not having a bunch of idiot engineers like Mastercraft and stuck with actually solving problems from a practical use stand point. Make more room in the cockpit area buy shrinking the sunpad, use an RV wastegate(obviously not originally their design) to add lots of ballast quickly and evenly(incredibly simple design), don't worry about stupid screens, digital switches and dvd players because those things provide no real value, etc... They aren't without their faults but right now dollar for dollar they blow everything else out of the water. Now, I am not debating that they are built better or worse then a Nautique, and they might be worse for all I know, but your argument lacks any, and I mean any, proof other then you spouting off about how amazing you are becasue of your engineering background. You still didnt' provide any facts, examples, etc of why you think Nautique is a better built boat.

I want to jump in on this, I worked at MC last summer as an engineering intern. (I graduate in May, but worked in industrial equipment design for 7 years, just returned to school to get my BA) I got to know many of the engineers at MC. None of them are idiots. Do they make mistakes? Or course, everyone does, but you would be surprised, or at least I was, as to how little control the engineers have to do with the final product. Marketing drives the design of their boats. They are pretty to look at and have all the bling you could want, but they are not for me. I would bring up questions as to why things were done the way they were, and the standard answer is that is what were were told to do. This is NOT how I would run a business, but MC nets more than I do, so what do I know.

This will be last post in this thread as I don't care to debate brand loyalists and elitists.

My opinion is based on my professional experience, technical expertise, experience with both brands, and years as an avid wakeboarder.

For what it's worth, MB does alot of things right as far as functionality, having an industry-leading ballast system, and value. I would expect them to gain market share as their dealer network grows.

I can't believe the B52 and Tomcat come from the same company.
In my opinion that freaking MB B52 is one of the most gorgeous boats currently being produced, while the Tomcat is, in my opinion... nevermind. Did different design teams at MB come up with both boats?

I recently bought my MB 21'WB after trading in my BU VLX and test riding the latest CC SAN, BU VLX and MB TWB.

Build quality is one of the last things I would worry about with MB. I am not to saying they are perfect. But, their quality is very good.

Resume intentionally not attached.

How come nobody has mentioned the new exhaust system? When i talked to shane last summer he said the new system quieted down the engine noise substantially- I never got a chance to check it out as it was still a prototype, but is there any truth to the noise reduction?

I would like to know more as well. I just purchased one and have not heard it run yet. I can not compare to older models either as I have not heard them. I am curious as to how it works. I have not quite got it into my head on how it works yet. Does anyone have a diagram as to how it works?

D.F.T.R. Great to see you at the Utah Boat Show. Congrats on the Tomcat purchase. I hope I wasn't a hindrance with the decision you and your wife were making. Enjoy the ride. You'll have to post pics of your design, and let us follow along with the build. The question about the exhaust sound levels is spelled out in the new Catanium exhaust PCM is using for California installed boats. It's also why we only have one exhaust pipe, rather than the previous models two.

Hope to see you on the water later this season!

Beasley ~ So what I can find is that PCM claims that it's a cleaner engine and not much talk about engine noise. http://www.pleasurecraft.com/NewFiles/catflyer.pdf Do you have info on the break down of the engine and how it works to keep the exhaust noise down? I could have missed it myself, sorry if I did...

IMO, all boat manufacturers should work on reducing noise and vibration. After full day on the water, any added noise/vibration can wear on everyone.

From what i understand the small diameter chrome port above the single exhaust pipe was something shane had worked on and that was supposed to reduce the noise, although i couldn't pry out of him how it worked. it seemed to me that it had nothing to do with pcm engines and the single pipe that all pcms run, and more to do with this invention... I would think MB could or would shed more light on it, if it was successful as he explained it to be. I just want to know IF it worked and HOW it works

I heard the small port has more to do with noise while at idle than at surf or boarding speed.

I would love to go, but 10 hrs one way is just to far for me to consider.
