Hey guys... We got the new X-star out over the weekend and can't help but think it's under propped. The 8.1 spins the stock prop like it's nothing. Riding speed is close to 4k rpm's. I'll try to get the details of what prop is on the boat this week, but I'm wondering in the meantime what other people have run with their 8.1's.

Thanks.

EDIT II: Call or email the prop mfg. direct. Eric @ OJ Props responded to a prop thread of mine. I called him and I got one I wanted.

Thanks guys... I've gotta look at the numbers ont he prop when I get out to the boat again. It's gotta be the same prop that's on the boats with the smaller motors. It's got a ton of power. I'm thinking it should be turning 3k or less rpm's at riding speed.

Billy, I think so. The wake is shaping up nicely already. Big, wide and hard. Kinda sounds like a porn description.

Evan, get a hold of Mike with Mastercraft of Charlotte, he knows all the stock props and he loves that engine. I bet he knows what prop is best for that boat. He also married to Megan Major, so he has that going for him.... (704) 525-6660......

Some boats come with the 16" prop, while it seems others use an 18". Some even have up too a 22".

Hey guys... I'll get some pics when the weather is better. Friday night we were rushed to get the boat loaded and into the water for a couple quick pulls, then it rained on us Saturday. Now the boat goes over to Nor-Cal Master Craft for their grand opening, so we don't get to play with it for a week.

They're going to have all the running gear off the boat for the opening, so I'd like to find a prop to have them change to while it's apart.

The pics are coming, though. I promise. It's a really nice boat. I'm looking forward to stacking that thing with people this summer. I loved my X2, but am stoked on the extra room in the X-star.

Billy, we're just breaking it in, so we're sticking to around 3k right now. LOL!!!

yup, kicks off friday night. Rusty and Andrew are confirmed riders for the event. I'm headed over there tonight. I hear they've been building already. I'll have to see what they've got going on.

Ok I want to keep this going since I've had this question since '04. I finally got off my ass called Acme, and spoke to a really nice guy who's name for some reason I don't have in my notes. The stock prop is a 14 1/2 X 22. This gentleman recommended an Acme 849-67M which is 14X20 with a "180 cup". He explained that with this prop even though being smaller would increase top end and be more efficient down low. I'm no expert but I fail to see how if I'm running up to the Rev Limiter with the stock prop, going down in size will be to my advantage on the big end. Let's come up with a solution here guys, I venture to say we're a pretty resourceful bunch.

The reason is the greater cup kicks in at higher speeds while the lower the main part of the blade is in full control. Keep in mind that the Acme has more square inches of surface area than the stock OJ. The two brands do not match up number to number. They are different in both design and performance.

I'll bet Bill at Acme is right and that the combo was tested to verify the performance.

Karl knows what he's talking about, I'll get a prop from him as soon as I can.

Alright Karl could you do a bit of research on the testing they have done, and give me a quote on the prop? Thanks

The prop is now on my website under MasterCraft props.

The 8.1L X-45 and X-Star at altitude or near sea level with extra ballast use the 849-67M. Replacment with extra hole shot from stock use the 849. You can go up to a 14 or 14.5X22 if you are happy with the stock prop performance and want to lower the rpms a bit for the fuel economy.
