I see people doing it. Have YOU done it? What price did you pay for pulling a rider w/o a 3rd, w/o a spotter?

when we wakeskate with the ski we almost never ride with a third, but im a weekday rider. were i ride in the delta we dont usually see a boat all day. im dreading the day we get busted, because we usually dont drive with vests on either. an even tan is a must!

i always ride with a vest on though (unless im winching)

Yeah, unless im in a ditch or a pool, I wear a vest when I skate.

But I always wear a heater shirt when im in a ditch or pools, cause you never know what you will land on.

We got our first ticket for no spotter just the other day. $100 ticket, but, if you get caught twice in 2 years the second time is a criminal offense. And we are the last state in the country that will not allow you to tow someone with a pwc. That is what the sea-doo dealer told me anyway. I hate massachusetts.

Here in winter park Fl that have a ordinance that you have to have a spotter, We got a $75 ticket when we dropped my son off at the 2nd boat to eat lunch. {He watched us stop by the boat on a pass then pulled us over.}

yeehaw for texas.

Keep in mind that in CA, that is also considered a moving violation that goes on your driving record and can add a point. If it was just a $75.00 fee to be paid and it disappears like a parking ticket, no problemo officer, put it on my tab! ...it is the insurance that will kill ya later!
Old    stu_hert            05-12-2008, 10:56 AM Reply
In Canada it is a Criminal Offence to not have a spotter. S. 250(1) of the Criminal Code refers. You could be looking at 6 months in Prison, a $2000 fine, or both, depending on the circumstances.
Old     (wakeparent)      Join Date: Jan 2005       05-12-2008, 11:29 AM Reply
WOW it snows six months out of the year and 6 mos in jail and or 2,000.00 fine.....For not having a spotter.

God Bless America...

But at least you guy's have gravy fries!

Anyone know if a mirror is acceptable in Wisconsin?

Get you a blow up doll and strap it in!!!

a mirror alone is not acceptable in Wisconsin. I routinely break the law there and would love to know how much the fine is going to be when I get caught.

Ian,

Someone else in this thread said that it was a moving violation in CA. Is that true? Did you get one or just the $100 fine?

It was a misdemeanor and a moving violation. The judge reduced it to $120, we just paid the fine and that was it. Had to go to court and tell them we would take a boating class, etc. It was my twin brother and I. We knew it was illegal, but went at 6am and couldnt find a third, and we have a mirror.

Did this a couple weeks ago for the first time in Mission Bay - one of the best times I've ever had. Got out there at dawn; wasn't too worried about getting a ticket.
I guess I won't be making it a habit, though.

I can't believe with all the debilitating injuries that have been posted on this site, that people are still willing to ride without a 3rd and worst of all a vest.
Maybe the laws should be implemented in your state/county to protect you from your stupidity.

Ian,

How is the riding in the bay during the weekend? Im thinking about going down there this weekend. Im up in Riverside area and the lakes get pretty busy up here on the weekends and I'm looking for a new spot. Plus SD is way cooler than the IE!

Just another law that really does nothing to increase safety. Having an observer never seems to keep that tube driver from looking back the whole time until he almost hits someone, and the observer is talking the whole time. Who ever made these rules?

Hey Jesse, I'm from upland so I know what you are dealing with in Riverside! The bay gets pretty crowded on weekends if its nice weather, not even worth it for wakeboarding in the main part of mission bay by fiesta island. The only thing worthwhile is to go early and ride in sail bay near pb/crown point (you can get there from mission bay) because prior to 11am and after 5 you can ride in there, but during the day its just sail boats. Not everyone knows this so you can get a good pull in the morning and evening. Let me know if you come down, we might be out

Ian - I live in Bay Park - blue Ski Brendella with a tall black tower. Been riding early weekend mornings, but my buddy just moved back to Minnesotta;(
Still got a few poeple to go out with but they're a little less up for the early morning trips. I'm not going out this weekend, but drop me a line if you want to hook up some other time.

You sure that we don't need a spotter, are we required to have a mirror though?
