Sweet jiminey... I think you could probably tow a 747 to the lake with that thing.

I'm guessing 8.5" lift with 37's. Sick truck!

Those are definitely 20's and I would guess 37 or 38's on the tires.

sweet truck 02/03? one of the last years of the 7.3l and the leaf springs... have fun making a u-turn at the bottom of the ramp. if the offset of the wheels are wrong then the tires will rub on the leaf. i have a couple buddies with them, one has a 01 crew cab short bed on 37's on 17's and the other has a 99 std cab long bed on 42' on 22.5" semi wheels, my gf's ext cab longbed is stock all of them pull my 06 210te easily, the ext cab isnt that cramped either... watch rock chips and diesel smoke on your boat though.

if you dont mind me asking how much are you paying? what are the upgrades? i spy a banks sticker.

If those are 22's then the tires are 40's. I think they are 20's with 38's. The angle of the picture makes it hard to tell.

Hell yea! Sweet looking rig. Lifted trucks haulin' boats is where its at. Better have faith in whomever is backing down the ramp though. Everyone in my crew can't seem to figure it out in my rig (02 Z71 w/ 8")

I think that truck would be a perfect candidate for one of the license plate cameras to see the boat for hookup and unloading.

Sick ride, btw!

dan lee,

What is that profile pic???? Were you at the ramp and saw that?

I think that would have to classify as "surf wake worthy."

Robb,

Thats my old boat. It's wake worthy. Check photos here. 21 footers are just as much fun, easier to keep clean and a little cheaper at the gas pump.

Blah Blah Blah....can't see the boat, can't turn around...whatever!

The tow-ability of a heavy duty truck with a diesel more than makes up for these small gripes. I would take these concerns over a 1/2 ton gas truck anyday and tow circles around the Tahoes and Yukons with better mpg.

Congrats! That truck is sick. I have a Superduty Crew Cab long bed (but a V10) It's like operating a fricken machine...I dig it. But it could never be a daily driver.

Now take that big beautiful ride and add one of these to it.

http://www.greasecar.com/

I'm seriously thinking about getting a diesel and doing this. Amazing mileage, cheap fuel, a little bit of a pain in the arse but can you imagine the cost savings? Take that you OPEC SOBs!!! That way when people give you ish for having a guzzler (at least here in CA) you can fire back and make them feel like a tool.
Old    mendo247            11-17-2006, 12:13 PM Reply
i wouldnt recomend doing that lol.. good idea however not the best thing for your truck.. lots of people have had nothing but problems running systems like this or biodiesel in their trucks..
Old     (bigworm)      Join Date: Dec 2004       11-17-2006, 1:09 PM Reply
i believe if a cop wants to be a dick there is pretty hefty fine for running untaxed fuel. also about the turning around deal i only mentioned it because these trucks in particular suck in that dept. it takes a mile to turn around, i ran off the ramp at mendo in my girlfriends truck making the turn. not the new ones though since they have coil springs and offer a much better turning radius. i dont get what everyones saying about not being able to see the boat dont you use your side mirrors? the boat will either be centered up in both mirrors or of to one side or the other it will always be in at least 1 mirror.

Most people on this board have a tower on their boat as well and unless you have bigfoot you will be able to see that.

thanks for the feedback cant wait to go get her. nice call big worm it is sitting on 22's with 40's. it has 11'' lift with banks turbo. chip added custom guages for oil temp, back pressure, bully dog exhaust. even come with 16 custom drop hitch. the wife will be backing and she is worried because it is a standard only way to go with big tires and lift. but she will be watching the tower. it does rub but he did upgrade the brakes and states it is crank all the way over so we will see. once again thanks for the feedback.Upload

Danny: Thats a cool looking rig congrat's

Taste in tow rig's is as diverce as taste in boats. When the post said rolling to the lake in style and power I was thinking it was gonna be a Esclade or somthing like what Dimity posted. Like I said diffrent style and difrent taste.

I crack up at all the diesel power guy's taking about how a diesel tow's like nothing else. Ummm I guess so..

Man you gotta give it up to the the people that have these lifted turcks that are clean as hell underneath. Lots of work keeping them clean under there. That truck is not my style but I can apreciate the work that goes into keeping somthing nice what ever it is you have.

Grant,

the pics would show that they actually take it off road. Because what is the point of doing that to your truck if you don't?

Some people just like the way they look. It's like when you see an old person driving a corvette. Have you ever owned something and taken it off road in the mud? It is a lot of work too get it clean again.

I agree with Kristen, I used to charge any mud hole I saw...

But it would take me about 3 trips to the car wash before I even got my truck decent looking again.

Now I only go "Froadin" when I have a ton of stored up quarters in ash tray.

I guess that bling it has yet to step over into the dark side, exhaust that is... you will be hard pressed to find someone that would prefer to tow with a gasoline engine over diesel.
Old     (grant_west)      Join Date: Jun 2005       11-20-2006, 9:28 AM Reply
John: Im sure there is lots of people that prefer a gas over diesel. If all you were gonna do was tow then Diesel is a great option.
IMO a long wheel base SUV like a Surbarban is the best tow rig for these reasons. Smooth ride Quite, all the bells and whistles in comfort.
I have ridden and driven a few friends F-350's and they have lots of power but ride and drive pretty hard making towing not as comfortable.
Old     (guido)      Join Date: Jul 2002       11-20-2006, 9:45 AM Reply
Yeah, gas is way better than diesel.... To charge up your hybrid, not to tow. J/K. I never thought too much about diesel till I drove one. Now I'll never own a gas truck again. I guess I could be strange though. I love the sound of the turbo and the way it just spools through the gears. 3/4 ton, diesel Suburban, that's a proper tow rig. I wish you could option one like that these days.

Grant, as far as F-350's.... Yeah, they're brutal when they're un-loaded. The 250's are a lot more comfortable. Kinda like driving a sports car. Definitely not cush like a Denali or Escalade, but not too bad.

Norm: That's bada$$. Definitely like seeing trucks used for truck stuff.
Old    redneckonaboard06            11-20-2006, 12:14 PM Reply
Charging thru a mud hole is fun as hell, but I can't stand my truck being that dirty, b/c it takes me a month to get it back to how it was and not find some dirt or dried mud each time I climb under it. Besides, mudding is hard on shiz.

I love the Dodge and the F250 but the Chevy HD 2500 does ride much smoother. Independent front suspension verse straight axle.

norm, thats cool. It should look great with the new lights. You doing the whole clip lights and grill? Have you seen the new ford's the 08's? Not sure If I like them yet.

I hear you on the ride of the Gm's, although this thing rides unreal for a truck this tall.

Thanks Evan. I drive it everyday. My wife drives it when I am traveling. So it gets a ton of miles on it. It runs like a spotted ape. It will roast those 40's from a dead stop.

I will see if I can scan in the article from Truckin, it was in the August issue.

Here are some shots of my business partner Brett's truck. There is never too much when it comes to lifts! Full Kelderman Air Ride. About 18 inches of lift. 18 wheelers 22.5 wheels.

It makes it real easy to load a boat trailer. Just drop the back end back up and raise the bags. Who needs a hand crank.

Here's mine '97 burb, 36k original miles, 454ci, special ordered 1 ton running gear as the suburban is a 3/4 chassis, 6" pro-comp lift, leather, painted front and rear bumpers, phantom grill, every option, blah,blah.blah... The rim and tire size is definitely a little behind the times but I can live with it. I had a '97 F-150 before this and what an upgrade! All you guys have some great looking rigs!
