I am trading in my 08 Moomba Outback V for a 2012 Axis.

Before I pull the trigger and order the boat, can anyone with experience explain the difference between the wake on a A-20 .vs A-22.

I can't imagine that extra 2ft making a huge difference.

Yes it does. My friend has an A20 and I have an A22. He wishes he got the A22 the couple times he's been on my boat

Could you elaborate?

From what I am reading online, the A-20 wake is just a little wider.

I think it would be the other way around.

I agree the A22 has a 100" beam compared to the A20 which has a 98" beam.2 FOOT can make all the difference.Demo both and then you won't wish you had later.

Coming from a guy who owns an a22, was the first person to ever ride behind the first a20 made, and spent this labor day weekend riding behind my best friends a20, I can tell you that the a20 wake is wider. I ride 5 feet in behind an a20. As for the wakes behind both boats, they are strikingly similar. I will say that the a22 wake seems to have slightly more lip, however, that may have something to do with our motor/prop/weight combos.. The troughs, ramps, and other aspects of the wakes are virtually identical. I love both boats. IMO, unless you really need the smaller boat due to length restrictions on your lake or garage space, I'd go for the a22. The a20 we rode behind this weekend had the standard motor, core prop, front plug n play bag, plus a bow triangle, wedge and about 500 in each rear hatch over stock.

The only reason I am looking at the A-20 over the A-22 is cost.

How much of a price increase am I looking at for the A-22?

I am have been pricing both, difference is about $3,000 to 5,000 increase to an A22.

That sounds about right.

I would rather add more options to the A-20.

Dan, you can always add options, but you can't add extra room and length to a boat...

That is very true but I dont have more then 5 people in the boat so its not an issue with me.

My main concern was the shape of the wake.

It's only me and my girl on my A22 and I wish Axis made a 23' boat (only for a larger sunpad which would make for longer rear lockers to hold wakeboards and surfboards). Current lockers do not allow for boards even in the A22

IMHO, you can't beat he a22 wake. The a20 wake is very close in comparison. If the wake is the most import factor, just go for the 22.

I was in the exact same situation you are in, and I went with the 20 because it fit my personal situation better ( I didn't even demo an A22 ). I usually ride with 5 or 6 people and every single person who has ridden the wake has been over the top impressed. You can easily put 10 or 11 in the boat from time to time but if that would occur with any regularity I would say thats an instant sign you need the 22. As far as that extra 2 ft are concerned, if you sit in both boats you will immediately notice how much more room there is in the 22 (the 20 isn't small, but the 22 is just that open). What I did not notice is a real advantage in storage from one to the other. There is a little more storage in the 22, but that's where you can say its just 2ft. Other than that they are the same boat just different sizes. There are all of my thoughts from when I compared them.

Now, if there isn't anything that would stop you from getting an A22, you should demo both before doing anything. I can't compare the wakes because I have not ridden an A22, but listen to Chattwake... between his A22 and Matt Bishop's A20 (which he also rides), that could possibly be the baddest 22 and 20 out there.

I would love to demo both the A-20 and A-22 but my local dealer is sold out of all Axis boats.

One last questions. Can the Axis create a clean wake at 18mph?

My gf likes to wakesakte at that speed and the wake on my Moomba Outback V is clean @ 18mph with no ballast.

Yes. You simply have to shorten the line length and adjust the ballast to where she likes it.

Do you know this for a fact?

Most wake boats dont have a clean wake at 18mph no matter what rope length.

Ballast will just wash out the wake at 18mph so she does not use any.

If I get out this weekend, I'll run the boat at 18 and post a video, ok?

This was one of the reasons we bought the axis (the wake is so easy to scale). The wake is clean at 18mph maybe even slower with the stock ballast. My wife and her friends skate around 18mph. I am sure I have a pic on my home PC. I will post something tonight

The A22 wake is clean on both sides at 18 with stock ballast filled out to 70-75' line no problem. Totally empty you can get down to 17mph 55-65' line for beginners and the kiddos.

A22 clean at 17.5 mph, full gas tank, 4 people, ballast empty, 600 lbs of lead (approx 400 in bow and 200 in center).

When I took my boat out for the initial test drive, the gas tank was empty and had absolutely no ballast. I had a clean wake at 17.0 (speed correct by gps)

With 4000 lbs I have a clean wake at 22.0 and it is huge, just have to ride shorter line, 65-70.

I imagine the A20 will be clean at 17 as well.

I was refering to the difference in length of the two boats. The beam measurements were a reference to wake width. Most boats i've been in the wider the beam the wider the wake.Comprehension is important too.

My kids would love that wake. Super clean at slow speed and not steep at all. That is impressive. As a dad, I care about their wake more than my own.

This pic was the very first day on my 2011 A22 back in May. No ballast or wedge...18mph with cruise control set and myself and my girl in the boat

That picture is a thing of beauty for sure.

Clean wake at slow speeds is the most underrated feature. The biggest, baddest boat is no good for people that are trying to learn.

Here is a decent representation of the wake for each level of riding. The pic of the three year old was a couple pulls before the raley pic.

ed, that raley is your buddy behind your a22 right? I am guessing that its yours and the wedge is down.... unlike randalls with more weight but no wedge...

rad how these boats wakes are so versatile, clean at slow speeds, not sensitive, fun at all sizes, and you can really change the shape by deploying the wedge...

nice pics!

PS: babygirl should be here this week which means I will be off work for almost 2 months. lets hit it hard... we can ride CL everyday if you want

Yeah, that is Jake behind my a22 with the wedge down... he was at elsinore for wtw. The pic of randalls wake is with a ton of weight, no wedge.

Let me know when she gets here! I will definitely make some time to come down and ride... I can't wait.
