Putting Eminence drivers in Defcon V's???

Would four Eminence Beta 8A, 8" mid bass drivers work to replace the four 8" mids in my Defcon V's, would they simply just plug in? If the mounting holes don't line up, can't I just drill new holes in the driver to make them fit the other holes. I can get the Beta's at a good price. Are the Beta's as good as a driver as what comes in the Defcon's. Thanks for any help

The eminence 8 inch drivers require a 7.13 inch cutout hole. And yes, you can always drill new mountng holes. The Beta 8A's rock!! You should use wetlook (brush on speaker protector) for UV and waterproofing the cones of the drivers because they are paper based.

you need to really, really careful on this one...

look at the the "bolt circle diameter".. i measured about 198mm on the defcons iv's (should be the same size on the v's). the emminence are 191's - it may or may not work..

if you can afford it...look at the beyma 8g40's (i am going this route and will post my findings). if the eminence will fit, then you should be fine with a minor crossover mod..

you will also have to modify the crossover since the drivers are 8 ohms and you will have to wire them in parallel for a 4 ohm load..

rebuilt crossovers with high quality parts to take 500 rms (this is one of the major weaknesses of current hlcd speaker designs)

typo on above, the blot circle diamter for the emminence is 197mmm..
