Hey guys. Just wondering if any of you have ever reinforced the tower supports on your boat. Was thinking of maybe putting a 1/4 thick piece of aluminum when the bolts come through the fiberglass. My goal would be to disperse any flex on the fiberglass to a greater area. Rather then just directly around the bolts. If anyone's done something that worked let me know.

just had my fiberglass behind my tower mounts beefed up and reinforced. they used chop matte for adhesion to the existing hull and weave for strength, 2 additional layers of each in as big of an area as possible to get to. Id give you the name of the guys I used but the guy did a terrible job matching my gel coat for some holes they told me they would fill as part of the job. When I asked for them to be corrected, he got smart with me and said he'd drill them out and return the spots to holes since he did them for "free". I paid $600 to have the 4 mounts reinforced and thats after i removed the tower and all the interior panels to allow access to the reinforced areas -which was at least 4hrs of the job. They did end up fixing the holes.... two weeks later. If i were to do it again, i'd probably just do it myself. they didn't use any special resin and by the time i removed everything 80% of the work was probably done. As you mentioned before a bigger area to spread the load over will help.

Are you talking about between the tower and deck, or underneath the deck? I'd be surprised if there wasn't some kind of reinforcement underneath. If you're talking above the deck, I've only seen it done twice, and once was to cover old holes from a different tower that failed.

I used plastic cutting board to back up my tower bolts and have had no stress cracking or anything for 3 seasons. I'm not a small boy and I pull hard on the tower too.

I had my boat guy build some 1/8-1/4" fiberglass pads on the outside of my hull... Popped them off with no residue, then moved them to the inside with a perfect fit. Drill, add large fender washers and your done.

I don't have access to fiberglass so I was thinking of using aluminum with a hard rubber pad then bigger washers and lock nuts.

I used wood backing panels with success on an older boat. Cutting board material sounds good too.

Our 210 Nautique we put a piece of plywood cut to the shape of the hull on the front mounts, then on the rear had a 2x4x~12 added along the gunnel for the rear mounts
