Has anyone repropped an older wakeboat?

Yo! I've got a 99 x-star that I run with about 2500 pounds of ballast and 500 pounds of people. It currently has the stock prop (don't have the numbers off it because it's in the water) and performs pretty well but I've heard some good things about switching. I've contacted Acme props and they recommend that I go with the Acme 1235-14.50X14.25VL4B 1.125 .105
cup four blade nibral prop. Has anyone made this switch or a similar one? I'd love to have a little more hole shot, less prop slippage during turns/double ups, and a little better gas mileage. Thanks!!

I run OJ props on my '05 X-star.
14.75 X 15.5 is what I use 99% of the time...good holeshot with over 2000# ballast, good mpg and I can still run 40-41 mph for barefooting/cruising. Runs about 3600-3700 rpms @ 22.5 mph.

The 14.25 X 14.5 OJ works better for holeshot but rpm's are a bit high for my liking and it uses more gas. But for you it might be your best choice if you never cruise around and just stay in the creek where you are.

If your present prop is a 13.7 X 17 take that off, it's not your best choice at all.

This is the prop we have on our 2004 X2. It's an amazing upgrade for the 205 hull if you are running with any kind of ballast at all. Dave is right, if you spend any time at all above wakeboarding speeds you may not want to go this low on the pitch.

I have an OJ too and love it. I'm running the 14.75x13 it came with a .105 cup. I actually got to talking to Travis Moye when I was at Boarding School this winter and he runs the same thing with a new cup Eric hooked him up with. So I sent my prop back to Eric and had him change the cup to what Travis was running (I have no idea what the cup number is now). I noticed a huge difference. I used to run 4200-4300 rpms at 24.5 mph. Now I'm down to 3400-3500, huge gas savings I'm stoked. I'm running this with PWT (front full, rear 80% full) and + 250 in the bow. My boat tops out about 33/34 with this prop but I never drive it over 30 anyway. I have an 06 Xstar BTW.

Thanks so much guys. One last question - if I reprop, can I expect my rpms at riding speed to increase significantly? Right now I'm running between 3500 and 3700 at 24 mph, depending on the tide and the wind. Thanks!!!

There is a direct relationship between the pitch and your engine RPM. Reducing pitch increases engine RPM, allowing the engine to develop more hp and torque. The starting point is your current prop. I forget exactly what prop your boat came with, it could be one of several. Also, I need to know if your shaft is splined or uses a keyway. The two are not compatible. Your hull has used up to a 20" pitch prop, depending upon year and transmission.

Getting more hole shot almost always will use more gas during riding.

3,500-3,700 at ride speed sounds pretty reasonable. I wouldn't expect you to need much more than that. Call ACME. They'll set you right. It'll have better economy and holeshot. Might give up some top speed.

Again, not knowing what prop you have now it's just a guess. The 14.25 X 14.5 prop will use more gas than the 14.75 X 15.5. Those are the only props that I have experienced first hand.
