Extended pylon vs Fat Sac

I am just starting out with my first boat ('89 Mastercraft Tri Star) and trying to get it outfitted for boarding. Right now I am trying to decide what to start out with...an extended pylon, or a fat sac or two (500 lbs). Can anyone offer some advice as to which will make the biggest difference in my wakeboarding experience? Thanks!

I think probably more important than either of those will be constant speed. I have read post after post about guys who swear by perfect pass and I have to agree with them. Getting a consistent pull at a consistent speed will probably help you progress faster than a pylon or bigger wake. If perfect pass is not an option, get a good 4-blade prop. If you talk to a sales rep and get the right pitch prop, it will greatly help keep your boat speed more constant and then you can worry about building your wake, etc. later. Just get a boat load of buddies and have a good time.

I agree with Josh except...

When I got my new I/O I tried boarding off the tow point. And let me tell you I/O have very low tow points... about 1 to 1.5' off the water .. it wrenched me back down every jump. Crumbs it hurt!

Previously I have an O/B with a regular ski pylon. It never ripped me back down like the low I/O tow point.

So, if you have a regular pylon (say 3') go PP and add cheap ballast. If you have a low tow point, try boarding with it once and you'll see what I mean.

Extended plyon!

If you have the tall plyon, you can always get friends to sit in back as ballast. It is kind of hard to people in the back when pulling off the standard pylon. Another factor is that it is a real bitch if your rope drags in the water as you cross the wake.
