Renting a tow vehicle

Anyone ever rented a truck/SUV to tow a boat? I need something to pull my wakesetter, but Enterprise, Budget dont rent anything you're allowed to tow with and I'm not Uhaul or Penske does.

I towed a boat with a Budget truck. I think it was 20'. The one I rented did not have a receiver, so the hitch height was not changing, lol.

I looked into this a few months ago. Most clearly said pulling a boat with their vehicle would violate everything you can imagine (every car rental co, truck and moving etc..). The few that were iffy, (ex: a Uhaul shop) would not say I would be covered in an accident. I did not wan tto run the risk of putting myself into a legal situation where I had to buy a wrecked truck if something went horribly wrong. I've know guys who rented and didn't care. If that's your mindset, just rent something that comes standard with a tow hitch (Expedition, 4Runner, TrailBlazer).

Sometimes you can get around this if your other vehicle was in an accident and the rental tow vehicle is a temp repacement if and the onus is on the ins co. This happened back when I was in Highschool, so things may have changed since then.

29 y/o...you have to have a friend with a truck you can borrow for a while.

Hertz Equipment Rental will rent you a truck to tow with, usually about $70 a day.

The truck rental outfits like U-haul can usually hook you up to tow. Depending what market you are in, you can also find some smaller rental companies that will rent out F-250s and the like to tow but that will not work for one way trips with different drop off and pick up locations. I know Atl had a company that pretty much specialized in this type of rental.

Probably lives on the lake and has a dock/slip/etc.

I'm 28 and don't have anything to tow my boat with. But my friend has a tow vehicle!

We used my sister's Mazda Tribute before (yea, i know pushing the tow capacity, but we didnt have far to tow) but she got in an accident, car got totalled, got a CRV which has a much lower towing capacity, so now I have no tow vehicle.

And I live 3 hours away from where I keep the boat, so friends aren't really up for let me borrow a truck for that far of a job. Which is also why I'm hoping to find a rental with unlimited miles and that actually doesnt mind if I tow things (thus no Enterprise).

I called Uhaul and they'll let me tow, its just pay by the mile with them I think. I'll try Hertz and United. Thanks

Craig, I was implying that he should have adult friends that aren't on their parents insurance, own/finace/lease their own vehicles and at 29 Gerald should be responsible enought to borrow a friends truck to tow with.

Your friends really won't let you borrow their truck to drive three hours to get your boat??? It's not like your using it to move your sister across country for two weeks.

I would advise against borrowing a truck no matter how responsible the person is. I let my best friend borrow my new vehicle and he got in a bad accident. Totalled the vehicle. Guess who's insurance pays for it....... mine. Insurance follows the car not the driver. It was a real pain in the ***
