I recently bought a 99 X-Star at the end of last summer and i'm ready to upgrade the sound system in the boat. My question is how to wire the tower speakers. It has the original tower and want to first know where to drill the holes (i see from previous posts that the towers can crack and i don't want to drill holes in a bad location). I've seen numerous pics of older X-Stars with speakers but can never see how they wire it from the base to the amps. This is my biggest question, what is the best way to have the wiring go from the base of the tower to the amps located under the passenger dash?

I've posted some pics of the boat

I have done a few of those. I usually drill a hole in the gunnal within about three inches of the base for the back leg. Don't get to close since there is a backing plate. Then I go up about 3 inches up from the weld and drill a hole on the back (towards the rear) of the pipe. After the harness is ran I use perko midget vents to cover the hole. The top is usually drilled as close to center as possible, and box drilled to match. I also usually use a Tidal Audio harness since it has the quick disconnects. But have also done them with just plain wire.

2nd the quick disconnect for functionality. One of those things you will wish you did later
