Just got a 92 Toyota Land Cruiser to tow my 04 Malibu Wakesetter VLX. It has the 4.0L V6 with all time 4wd. It also has the factory tow package. Anyone have any thoughts on how this vehicle will do on the boat ramp and on distances less than 50 miles???

I would say just fine... Do you have the service records on that thing? I might recommend a tranny flush.

No service records, but I have it at the shop now getting looked at. They are going to do a thorough inspection.

fRIEND HAS A 94 I THINK. You should look for a 93, it has the higher output motor, by about 50 hp and i think 75torque. These cruisers are way over built and weigh 4500 or something pounds i think. It had no problem braking and once up to speed it hdoes really well, but it is kind of a dog on hills. Google some stats.

Well, luckily here in Florida, not too many hills. I already bought the 92 and dont think I will have a problem for the most part. Land Cruisers are hard to find and I got a great deal so I jumped on it. Thanks for the post.

v6? straight 6 here in oz. The land crusier is considered THE tow vehicle in Austraila. We tow our 220 easily with a 96 model.

Would love a 250 or silverado, but they dont sell them.

I have a 1996 that pulls fine around town. Has the straight 6. It's a little sluggish at highway speeds but I don't tow that much and I'm located in flat florida.

Also, most Toyotas sit low in the back end when loaded. So on longer hauls I use a weight distributing hitch. Works great and it stabilizes the vehicle.

Today was the first day I towed with it and it towed great. Did fine in and out of the ramp. Did great on the road. Have not taken it to the highway yet.
