Hey Dave,

Do you just archive mid month? Or is there a number of threads you get to before archving?

I wanted to respond to an archived Boats thread, but just discovered that they were all archived 5 days ago.

Not trying to rip, just trying to clarify why they get archived so quickly. What about archiving threads that are a month old, and use that as the basis for archiving? After a month, they are pretty much gone anyway.

THANKS!!

I wouldn't mind chiming in, yet slightly changing the subject, on this one too. Maybe a couple polls would be in order?

Why archive at all? There are times when it is nice to bring an older thread back to life. I follow some other bulletin boards, that function this way and it works well for the way "I" use the boards. Maybe others feel the same way?

For instance a person is looking for a certain boat brand. They locate an older thread with some info that pertains to their purchase and bring it back to life, because maybe someone now has more experience with their boat make and model or hopefully someone new to the board can share their info (Always growing right?). Yes you can link to something that has been archived, but that is not always ideal.

This one I feel strongly about and have brought it up in the past. It would be really nice if the Non-Wakeboarding Discussion would at the least be archived. There are other peoples posts all the time looking for past threads and they can not find them, due to them being completely removed. We have had some great picture threads in the non-wake discussion forum, with cute kid pics, favorite pets, to spectacular vacation photos. For someone who knows where the search button is the information can be brought back, like an old book or photo album, to enlighten the next person of subject matter in a particular thread.

How 'bout them polls?

Edit: Speaking of which, why can we not do polls in a thread? Again most other bulletin boards seem to be able too. If you want examples for anything written above let me know.

Signed,
WakeWorld Addict

Yeah, I totally agree with Peter on this.

My Yamaha site I go to has hundreds of pages of older posts that you can add to at any point. I don't see why Wakeworld has to archive? My yamaha site has hundreds of posts per day, so it is not like it is hurting the search function. I can still search super quick.

Something to do with format of the board? I know there are no pages for threads like my Yammy site, just one long list.

It's basically a software restriction. If we dont' move old threads out of the main section and group them somehow, we will have to load up all the threads everytime you view a topic. For most this will take too long. Hopefully, we'll get all of that solved with the new website we're currently developing.
