Anyone know how to order a new wedge for my 2003 malibu wakesetter?
Old     (jermiside)      Join Date: Jun 2007       09-09-2007, 5:51 PM Reply
You could start by contacting the dealership that you bought your BU from. Or the closest BU dealer if you bought from an individual.

I thought the wedge had 2 bolts, one on each side. Did you loose both @ the same time?

I have been in 2 Malibu's when that has happened.

I've been in several and never seen it happen. Man just call your dealer, and they will give you a new one.

the wedge has 4 bolts did it just rip the wedge off or the entire backing plate contact malibu directly it'll be cheaper and u'll get faster results because that's a HUGE warranty claim u should not have to pay a penny.

There is one for sale in the acc. thred don't know if it is still available or not tho. but I would check with BU or the dealer first for warranty.

theres for bolts holding the wedge plate on put only 2 or one (can't remember) actually holding its on plus the 2 pins. or 4 if the bottom snapped off.

should definetly be a warranty issue

Is it the allen screws that snapped holding the foil? that is most common

The two allen head bolts on the left strut came out of mine and the wedge swung out and got all bent up. Really sucked. I am in the process of fixing it right now.

Just like a car, bike, or whatever, you should check these and other critical bolts once in a while to make sure they have not loosened up over time. I check mine on a regular basis. Pretty much preventable. If they fell out, they were probably loose for a while. If they broke off, that's a different story. As far as where to get another one, the dealer is about the only choice, unless you want to buy a used one from someone.

Friend of mine busted three on his VLX and it wasn't preventable. We determined on our own that the bolts were not seating all the way down. They were a few thousandths too long.

loctite and checking them periodically will keep that from ever happening again. if they were the bolts holding the plate to the struts

When I had my Malibu, I broke 4 of them in a year without hitting anything or doing anything wrong.

EDIT: You can get a new one free from your dealer I'm sure. That's what I had to keep doing. It ruined some nice days for riding though.

the local dealer said we had to pay 500 bucks because it was a 2003 so my partner called factory direct and we had to pay the shipping to get the rest of the pieces to them and they are going to fix/replace it. thanks guys

I havent even tried to fix mine yet. Its just all bent up laying in my spare room. My wife whacked her toe on it yesterday - reminding me rather quickly that I have to fix "that stupid !@#$%^ damn @#$%^& piece of metal laying on the floor"!

Didn't some kid get hit with a wedge in Cali?
Old     (madvlin)      Join Date: Jun 2007       09-21-2007, 10:15 AM Reply
this has happened to one of my buddies also. that wedge is crap!

Don't try to fix it! Get a new one! You could get some nickel screws instead of those flimsy screws that hold it together. I ended up doing that and it didn't break again. I had to have a machine shop make them though and put it together.

Ted,

Your local dealer will charge you for it, I am certain of this because I just bought one from them last year after a turtle swam in the path of my wedge and bent my struts. Also, they made me order the entire assembly and not just the arms.

A turtle? As in the green thing with flippers?

Yes Ted, it was up at a lake near Gainesville. Many turtles there.

Hey my wedge fell off to a while back. I think we should start a club for this. The new one that they put on is a lot more durable than the old one, it take two of us to put it up or down!Moore piss poor quality, back to the dealership... Ill tell you thank god Malibu has a good warranty because Ive used the hell out of it.

I know they had a bad batch of bolts up into mid 06, after that it seems the problem went away.
Old     (jetskiprosx)      Join Date: Aug 2004       09-21-2007, 4:51 PM Reply
It happened to ours a year or so ago.

Malibu doesn't put the old wedge on their boats anymore. They only offer the FF wedge and power wedge which don't have bolts because its all welded together. I haven't heard of any of the new wedges breaking.
Old     (spherren)      Join Date: Aug 2005       09-21-2007, 5:01 PM Reply
What do they replace it with if your boat is still under warranty?
Old     (jetskiprosx)      Join Date: Aug 2004       09-21-2007, 5:11 PM Reply
Scotter - They will replace it with the original one that came on your boat. However, you may be able to talk to your dealer and pay the difference to get the FF wedge.

Ours ('05) v-ride- busted off on only one side this season. We noticed it when the boat just didn't want to go right for some reason It totally torqued the whole wedge with stress wear on the opposite side, etc. We took it into the dealership and got the same story- That there was a bunch of bad bolts that went through the manufacturer and no way to track- so Malibu replaced ours with a new one, no questions asked. We kinda hoped ours would accidentally be replaced with a polished one- didn't happen ;) Interestingly, our original wedge only had two bolts on each side, new one has three....

how do you get a bad batch of bolts LOL I have heard of this happening alot. If the lug nuts on your car fell off and the manufacturer said "we had a bad batch of bolts" I don't quite think that would cut it.
Old     (wakedude83)      Join Date: Apr 2004       09-24-2007, 12:35 PM Reply
Bad batch of bolts is what Malibu kept telling me. Everytime I got a new one they said that this one had the "good" bolts. And then I broke it again. And again. And again... And every time they were telling me it was a bad set of bolts. Something wasn't right there.

I heard they had led paint on the bolts also.

Billy what do you mean, the bolts were made out of the finest pot-metal money can buy...

LED paint - did it glow?
Old     (woreout)      Join Date: Aug 2006       09-24-2007, 1:29 PM Reply
