Wake Skaters, got a question for you?

Skaters,
I have a Hyperlite wake skate, its some kind of plastic or maybe fiberglass with the rubber on top for grip. I bought it a few years ago. Its got a pretty awesome graphic on the bottom with a Grim Reaper and a Coffin. ANYWAY.....
My son thinks it kind of sucks and wants to step up to a better skate. I've seen the two part wood skates but they seem really heavy. I kind of like the old school single layer wood skates but they seem to be prehistoric now.
I would love some input from guys who are serious about wake skating.
What board is really nice and why?
