Colbert gets a shot on the big stage and leaves a lasting impression in Washington.

That's hilarious.

However, I believe a big part of the reason he was invited was because he spent a day working with migrant farmers, right? Now why wouldn't some of the folks in Congress just go spend a single day working the farms next to the migrants themselves? If they're looking for some sort of insight, there's no better way to do it than for them to get their hands dirty themselves. It might even get those who would do it some good publicity.

You know we have a bunch of morons on the hill when they are inviting talk show hosts to come testify.

True. Sad, but true.

As a fan of Colbert's, I found this absolutely pathetic. Congress should be fact finding and investigating tough issues, and this was just another political stunt very symptomatic of the complete breakdown of our political system. Nobody is interested in fact finding, truth, etc., they are interested in staying in power and building future fortunes. So, they orchestrate stunts like this crap, or they tack on the freakin DADT bill to the defense bill to try to milk more political capital out of it rather than just putting it up for a straight vote.
