Are Fat Sacs A Hassle?

I am trying to talk my dad into extra weight via fatsacs, but he isn't really "for" them because he thinks they are a hassle. Are they?

yes. ive been in a boat that had the fly high pro x series sacs. these seemed aboout as hassle free as any sacs ive seen. however they are pretty costly.
ballast is worth the effort but still a pain in the arse imo

Like alan said... They are worth it. Takes only 10 mins maybe to get yourself 1000# with the Tsunami pump. I would rather take that extra bit of time to have a fun ride on a huge wake rather than a not as fun ride on the small wake.

they are not THAT much of a pain. i have the fly high pro x series, and have had the connection come apart and spray water everywhere for a few seconds... and, i lost a tsunami pump over board. but the difference they make in the wake make them worth it imo.

Jusr purchased the fly high pro-x series v drive sacs... they say they're 550 each on the box, but said they were only 450 online when i ordered them. 16x16x42

I have two sacs and two pumps.

It takes about 5 minutes to fill then 5 minutes to empty.

I'd love an auto ballast system but I really don't think 10 minutes of my day is too horrible to give up for a way better wake.

As everyone one else said yes but a pain. I have 2 750s for my lockers and 2 260s under the bow seats and a fat brick to move around. It takes about a 1/2 hr to setup but it is so worth it. I like them better then Lead or sand bags. I use 2 tsunami pumps.

We're the same as Josh, 2 sacs+2 tsunami pumps. They fill/empty ~900lbs in <5min...about the same time it takes for the first rider to get set. I don't think they're all that much of a hassle, but don't ask my wife.

Does your have the front bgallast or not. We have an 04 LSV and have the front ballast. The first thing I would do if you dont have front ballast I would add 700-800# to the front or if you have the front ballast I would add 500lbs to the bow wqalkway.

I would but I'm having the same problem with my dad.

Def worth it, you can plumb some v drive sacs in to your existing ballast system so you don't have to worry about manually filling/emptying them. Do a search or go to the malibucrew.com for info. The wake gets WAY nicer! Do you have the front mls system? If not you will want to add at least 500lbs to the front.

Check out this thread for the size of wake you get when adding weight to a VLX. You will also need to reprop to a acme 1235.

1ft/cu = 7.48gallons or 62.31 lbs

6.222 x 62.31 = 387.7 lbs.

With expansion (provided you can fill them up) you'll get 400-425lbs.

Agree with all that they're a pain, but for my boat they're an absolute necessity since there's no factory ballast. I'm in the middle of plumbing the boat to make it much easier.

IF you use the Tsunami pumps you can just move them from one bag to another after they are full. Takes more time that way though.

Nope. There are lots of homemade ballast threads, but here's an ugly drawing of mine.


I've made 2 slight changes to the drawing. The drain hose doesn't go to the bilge line since it's way too small. I've added another thru-hull fitting so it has it's own. Also, the manifold is three-way so I can fill a sac on the side of the engine for surfing.

With the switch in the fill position, the check valve on the drain line prevents the pump from sucking air. When the pump is reversed, the check valve on the fill line forces the water out the drain line.

Pretty simple design and it should work like a charm....I'll should find out this week-end.

If you add another 300 to the front I think that would be good. re you going to be taking out the rear stock tanks? IF you are that's a good setup. If your not you'll either want less weight in back or more weight up front.

No we wouldn't take out the back tanks. Maybe I would only put 200lbs on each side in the back.
