Need some abvice,,,,,,,,,,flame away. Just starting to board again after 10yrs. Using our X45. I am 170lbs, board is 139, 16.3 mph and 75' rope.

Any ideas as if I am on the right path. The rope seems to long and the speed about right, but I noticed most are doing about 22mph or so. I have an intermediate skill level.

ThanX!

I bet your speedo is a bit off and you are really going faster than 16. For that weight/ rope length, I would go about 23.

thats to slow.......if your intermediate you can ride at 22.......if you want to ease into it try 20.

you can shortn the rope to 65 to clear the wake easier....but also remember as you go faster the wake will get narrower

yeah at 16 you would feel like your in mush

In an X-45 are you even on plane at 16 miles an hour? I know my 24SSV isn't on plane a that speed, maybe close, but no on plane.

+1 to what Roddyrod said. You'd need a kite to go W2W at 16mph/75ft.

If your using perfect pass its probably off. thats what happens to mine. its a few mph's off from what im really doing. i have the PP at 19.8 but im really going 23. if you have any sort of GPS type deal like a thing for your car bring it on your boat to test it out.

I am a novice and ride behind a 236 at 21.5 at 70 ft when I am doing 1 wake jumps and 180s. I bump it up to 22.5 and shorten the rope to 65 when I try wake to wake. That works well with stock ballast. When my son has the boat loaded (about 4,000 lbs) you can't get a clean wake at less than 23.5 or 24. He and is buddies generally ride 24. to 24.5.

We bring a lot of new riders out and get them up for the first time around 16, but as soon as they can stay up, we work them up to 18, 19, 20. To us, 20 seems about the minimum speed to begin progressing. Sometimes we slow down to 18 or so to learn switch riding so an edge catching face plant will not hurt so much.

I agree with michael z that 22 is very reasonable for an intermediate rider. I am a 49 year old novice and I am comfortable at that speed.

When people talk about appropriate rope lengths for their skill level, are they judging the distance from the tower post, or from the hook on the back of the boat? My boat doesn't have a tower (unfortunate, I know). Should I shorten my rope length a little because of this?
