I know of a couple from around that vintage that are still running but the only comment I would have is that everything has a lifespan. That being said my 96 v8 explorer has just started costing me a little money here and a little money there. I just installed a new front end, bearings-upper control arm with ball joints, lower ball joints, brakes, inner and outer tie rods, and sway bar links. This was all due to a ball joint on the right going and I figured why not just replace it all while I was in there. About $250 later and some time (free). I also just had to rebuild the driver side power window motor $15 and some time (free) I still would rather do this then make a monthly payment (havent been for a few years now) It is 14 years old, soon to be 15 so be ready to do some maintenance as I have been.
