well, i wanna take my jumps higher and i think the thing holding me back is my edge

i can edge out toe really far but then i feel my entrance is hindered by the way i come in

my dads trying to talk slalom to me and i think my friend isn't doing it right

is this what i do? -edge out (as) far out as i can toeside
-straighten up
-once i'm standing vertical, squat slightly and lean hard away from the boat
-keep edging in
-stand tall going up the wake

any suggestions? rite now focusing on my hs jumps but ts is next!

You dont have to go outside the wake as far as you can. Go out until your comfortable, hesitate for a second and try to make a smooth rounded cut back towards the wake and increase your edge all the way through the wake. As you strengthen your cut you should be tightening the rope. Stand tall off the top of the wake and continue to hold the handle at your hips, not your chest.

u dont want to edge out as far as you can i usually edge out maybe 20-25feet and flatten out, look at the wake which turns your shoulders towards the wake and it slowly starts your edge, start cutting slowly and closer and closer i load the line more and edge harder and harder at the trough i start to stand tall(standing tall through the wake gives u pop) and my hardest edge is right at the wake, stand tall throught the wake and if u do this it should give u good pop. this is a basic progressive edge. theyr are a couple other edges. get the book to learn all of them step by step and visual aids. hope this helps

what usually happens when a beginner (no offense) edges out too far is that he accelerates too much too quickly and the speed intimidates the rider, so naturally he lets off his edge without even feeling it. you think you're edging because you're carrying a lot of speed. but don't mistake speed for tension...they are not the same thing. like the others have said...make sure your turn is very slow and very effortless...then start to squat and load the line. your hardest edge and fastest speed should be right at the wake. good luck....

I never understood this concept (progressive edge) until I watched detention. Shaun Murray over exagerates what beginners will do and it finally clicked for me. If you have a chance watch this video and it will explain it very well. Other than that the book instructional series gives you some great tips on edging drills to strengthen your edge.
