So I took the boat out for the first time this year and it over heated a several times. I could watch the temperature raise above 170 and sometimes it would keep going and set off my alarm and others it would drop back down. When the temperature was rising above 170 it would do so quickly, and like-wise, when the temperature would drop from around 190 it was a fast drop. I was able to use the boat for the weekend because after a while it seems to settle and maintain temp around 170. I just wish it hadn't had to hit those super high temperatures before it finally settleed out. The highest temperatures were over 210 I'm sure. I was able to hear the water steaming off inside what I think is the thermostat housing on the front, top of the engine where several cooling hoses attach.

Has anyone else had a sticky thermostat? Or similiar symptoms?

Had a similar situation a few weeks ago. I changed the thermostat and impeller and everything works now.
