I have a 99 Sportster and the latest of my problems is this:

The battery is new and fine and when I turn the key, it just clicks once. The main ground is good. Do you think it could be the starter? Solenoid? Something else? It has been doing this for a couple of seasons. Usually I can turn the key and it will click once, but if I do it several times, eventually it will turnover. Not anymore. I'm very frustrated with my Malibu and have been for the last 5-6 seasons because it's been one problem after another.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks. I called the dealer to get prices and they told me the solenoid is generally around $32 but when I asked if they had any in stock, they guy said he though I had a solenoid that was not removable and you can only get the starter/solenoid together...and that's $170.

Jon, have you checked with Discount Inboard Marine (http://www.skidim.com)?

I have ordered a lot of boat/engine stuff from them. They are usually much cheaper than the dealer.

go to a auto parts store and get a solinoid for a older ford truck. And no their is no difference between the marine and the auto one.
