I have a 2003 with the 5.3L and it tows fine. I sometimes have to have somebody stand on the back bumper of the truck so I don't peel out on steep launch ramps. Other than that, it does fine.

2wd's have a higher tow rating than a 4wd. No need for a locker around here. Proper driving techniques should alleviate wheel spin. You can have one added for a few hundred or less. More if you want a fancy locker, that is really not needed. The right rear end gear ratio will be important. Again that can be changed fairly inexpensively, but the PCM will need to be reflashed.

The downfall to the Yukon vs the Yukon XL is the short wheelbase. Bigger IS better.

I have the 2007 Yukon 2WD and it pulls my 05' Moomba outback LSV with no problems (double axle trailer w/trailer breaks). The rear diff on the Yukon has traction contol and I have never had a problem pulling boat out of the water. On the road and in the mountains it pulls fine.
