Motor Problems on river right now, need help!

95 Malibu echelon runs 5 mins and dies, starts back up runs 5 min and dies again. Has factory computer with auto kill after 5 min but only at an idle. Its doing it at cruising speed as well.
Any ideas?

How does the ECU sense and determine idle? It sounds as though the computer believes the boat is always idling.

Perhaps it uses the neutral safety switch to determine "idle". Try starting the boat in gear - though not a 100% certainty test, if it did start, it'd tell you the neutral safety switch is stuck.

check and clean the fuel pickup screen in the tank too.

So your buddy had to wait from 7:20pm to 6am to get a tow in?

I'm confused, why didn't he just drive the boat back to the launch? It runs for 5 minutes at a time, correct?

Did this happen the first time out after winterization? If so, fogging oil can cause havoc sometimes.
