Do you get congested or sinus problems after a day at the lake? Went Slalom sking and Wakeboarding this weekend and got some water up my nose and Saturday evening and Sunday were miserable.

What can I do to prevent this?!?!

nose plugs, ear plugs.
usually can be purchased at any sporting goods stores or run shops. our girls use to get the same thing years ago and the nose plug did wonders for solving their water up the nose problem. ear plugs were good to keep from rupturing ear drums on heavy impacts. and of course, it always helps to close your mouth before you fall...

One time I faceplanted real hard, blew my nose, and felt much better. It benefited my nose, even though it hurt a lot.

Is the mucus greenish or white-ish? Could be bacterial or viral.

A doc will tell ya. Best thing is to gid rid of what you have instead of letting it go on. Especially if you go to the same lake. You'll just keep getting it back.

Water is part of the game eh?

Had the same thing happen to me this weekend. Wakeboarded all day Thursday and was miserable all weekend. Went to the doctor today with a bad sinus infection. He gave me some antibiotics. That should clear things right up. Don't let it drag on.

I haven't had a "lake cold" since I got started doing this:

I do it after I get water up my nose or if I'm having trouble with allergies. It works great.

You could always get one of those sinus flush kits. My wife has bad sinus problems, and uses one. I've used it once, and while it was uncomfortable to say the least, it really worked well on cleaning out some of that delta scum from my nose.

Mark B,

The methods in the link above are not uncomfortable at all as long as you use the right concentration of salt. I did try it with regular Morton table salt once and it seemed to be a little irritating. Now I use some sea salt and it's all good.

It may seem like some crazy hippie practice (some of the other stuff on the first site is a little weird) but if you have crap in your sinuses that needs to come out, this is the way to go. My nose used to be stuffy for days after getting some lake water in there. The methods above completely cured that. I also have a really bad runny nose and itchy throat sometimes (like when I inhale massive amounts of pollen from doing work outside while the oaks in my front yard are coating everything in sight with a thick layer of yellow dust). If I just do that stuff after I come inside, I'm good. If I don't, I could be feeing it for days.

ive heard that its more likely later in the season. like aug or sept. Because the warmer water allows for more bacteria to grow..? anybody else heard or experienced this?
