Anyone have a pic of the wake of one of these loaded down at all-can it be made to have a decent wake or no?

1982-1989 2001 ski nautique is the way to go. With a tower and about 2000lbs, the wake is awesome.

I had a '79 and the wake was OK. I loved my boat, but I think the 2001 is a much better boat for wakeboarding.

The MC 190 will throw a DECENT wake when weighted hard. The shallowness of the freeboard doesn't allow a whole lot of weight while maintaining safety and soundness. Just remember, they were designed to throw no wake. If you are just entry level, I would say it will be fine. If you like to ski more than board, it will be fine. If you like to board and want to get good fast on a budget, get the 2001 CC.

S&S's dont throw wakes. I used to almost sink mine, and it was still a curb, not a wake.

the S&S is different than a ps190

That said, I learned a lot behind it, and never regret owning it.

2001 nautique is the way to go, i swear by it as do many others. check out www.the2001.com or check out my profile pic, that is my 2001 with about 1000 lbs ballast and its pretty big

I used to have an '86 MC ProStar 190. I weighted the crap out of it with all kinds of different configurations and it was never that great. It did have the best slalom wake I have ever experienced, though.

FYI, My '83 2001 SN has a better wake with just a few friends and no fat sacks than the MC did weighted down. The wakes are not even close.

I will say this and I will probably get flamed for it, but I think that the MC was a better built boat.

To wakeboard...
Put 350 in front, 400 on each side of the motor. It won't be a wake worth writing home to mom about but I'll bet you wouldn't here any complaints from the people riding.
To surf...
Put 1000-1200 in back and 400 beside the motor of your surf side (it will never plane with this kind of weight in the back but your only going 10-12 mph). Put a couple hundred lbs in front for a steeper wave.
And they're right. It's no 2001 but you can get kinda close.

im not gonna flame ya, its the whole ford chevy dual. Ill just save a lot of breath and say they are both really well built boats, and in my opinion the top two boat manufacturers in the wake industry

Kevin, I wouldn't own a boat that had anything other than a 351W in it.
Old     (fuel)      Join Date: Apr 2002       10-05-2006, 4:35 PM Reply
Kevin - For sure, they are both great boats. I just think that in the eighties models that I have owned and the others that I have been in, I think MC's quality was better then. Just my opinion. We are splitting a very fine hair here. I think they were both great, I just think the MC was slightly better built.

Nowadays, I think CC has the others beat in quality, including MC. But it is still a close race. Now as far as styling goes, well... that is another topic!

TerraFirma - Are you kidding? I wish I had a 5.9L Cummins diesel in my boat! But, yeah the 351W and the GT-40 were great engines.

Kevin, a 5.9 would be worth settling for, it's the best motor Ford builds, until that Dodge junk is attached to it. I'd like to see a 7.3 PSD in an X-star or a 247, something big (it'd have to be).

So no wake pics huh

It throws an ok wake in deeper water. I have mine weighted with a single sac and about 400 lbs of people in it. Its not bad, but no X-Star...

Another vote for the SN2001. Mine's been in the family since it was new in 1988 and it is an incredible boat. I usually run two 500 lb bags on either side of the engine but my ballast pump broke today. With three small people in the boat it still threw a great wake and I could land my tricks. With six people and fully weighted it is insane!

89 with a fat sac and two people. I love this boat, can't afford anything else.

BTW, have ahd it a lot bigger loaded with 9 people, but it takes a minute moving everyone around to get it right.

The Stars and Stripes is a 190 with stars and stripes on the side. They didn't produce a new hull for the boat. Its basically an upgraded version.

Here's a few pics of my '88 Prostar 190 wake. First one is with 4 people and 2 450# fatties beside the motor. 2nd pic is with 5 people and no fat sacks...
Not a bad wake to learn on.

again, I have to reitterate that a 89 ps190 is a different boat from an 81-86? skier 19. aka "stars and stripes"

depends on which boat your are talking about.

Ok, I will explain this. The 81-86 skier 19 is a different boat than the 89 190. Just like how the hull changed on the 190 from year to year. The skier 19 became the 190 over time. The stars and stripes is a special edition boat that they still produce on some 190s to this day. Saying its a S&S doesn't nessecarily mean the hull is different than the 190. It just depends on the year.

Paul,

I believe you're mostly correct. A couple things. Why do you skip years 87-88? Wasn't the early 80's stars and stripes the ONLY 19 skiers made, therefore were the only prostars available? (i'm pretty positive yes) And I have not heard of any "new" ones available since the 98 190 that had the stars and stripes as a color option. I have an 89, which I also believe is the same as some of the early 90's. SN2001's do have bigger wakes naturally, but I'm an MC guy, and being young and poor this boat is my dream. The interiors on the stars and stripes (early 80's) do not compare to an 89, imo.

Yes the 80s models were the only 19 skiers made. I just used the 81-86 as an example to what Dj said, didn't mean to leave them out. As far as 98 being the last year they did the S&S, I am pretty sure they did one in the 2000-2004 range because I was saw it at a local dealer. I didn't get up close to check it out, so I could be dead wrong on that. I will do some checking.

NO WAY! I've been dying to see that scheme come back for too long, and just when I thought it was never gonna happen. Thank you Mastercraft. If they made a Stars and Stripes X-Star, I would probably have to buy it.

I am pretty sure they make a few S&Ss every year. I actually found that one on boattrader, so it is for sale. Look at the engine box. I think its got quite a few ponys in there.

Technically yes, "stars and stripes" does not specify a specific boat, there were the ones like matt posted (82-87ish), in 96 I belive they made an anevsery eddition ps190 with the stars and stripes look. Then there is what paul posted. I have also seen on here a 05? xstar done in a custom blue stripe with a white xstar logo.

All that said, when somone posts about an early/mid 80's stars and stripes, they are talking about the boat that matt posted.

Matt,

That boat is almost identical to my old boat. I loved it, it was a great, solid boat that I learned a ton from, and I never regret riding behind it. That said, I could never get a wake from it. Even tried a fat seat, which was dangerous
Old     (curtisco24)      Join Date: Dec 2005       10-11-2006, 12:39 PM Reply
I'm pretty sure the stars and stripes stopped regular production in 84 or 85. 1993 was a 25th anniversary stars and stripes (blue and silver),1998 30th (blue and red)and 2003(black and white) was a 35th anniversary. As far as I know those are the only official stars and stripes Mastercraft has produced. I think the boat pictured above has had the stars added. I would suspect Mastercraft will make a 40th anniversary in 2008.

Yes. Its a conspiracy
Old    jack43            10-12-2006, 9:26 AM Reply
Every year they made the ProStar 190, you could get the Stars and Stripes edition. That would be over thirty years, now.

The boat shown above is not a stars & stripes. Those are aftermarket stickers. You can put stickers on any of the newer boats and call them a S&S if that tickles your fancy. BTW, the 190 listed above has the 8.1 liter!!!!!!1

i rode off of a 1990 cc 196 all summer good wake if lots of people in the boat or it is weighted properly. ran like new as well
Old    alanp            10-14-2006, 12:26 PM Reply
matt if you wakeboard primarily i wouldnt even consider this boat. i had an 86 ps190 and it was horrible. i had well over 2k in ballast in the boat and the rub rails were just above the water line, very dangerous and the wake still sucked. now my 95 ps 190 is a different story. look for a nautique 2001 you wont be disappointed. if you like to wakeboard just a little and like to ski the mid 80s mc may be the boat for you then.
