can someone give me some advice if selecting between these two boats (both 80s models) and both fairly mint condition, both closed bow, neither set up for wakeboarding>......

supra! ha i'm biased...but i love mine. they are both sweet boats. i think the supra will give you a little more space but the 2001 throws a phenomenal wake. just check the stringers on the supra.

Check the stringers on the 2001 as well. I am biased and would say the 2001. If the supra was an open bow I would say the supra but when comparing the 2 closed bows I think the nautique will throw a better wake.

AFAIK all Sunsports were open bow. I'd take an open bow inboard over closed any day, and those old Supras are known for good wakes anyway. Check stringers & floor for rot very carefully in any older boat built with wood.

I think I am gonna go with the 2001 as I am more concerned about the wake than anything else

If the supra had the same hull as the 1990 model I'd still be unsure
The supra is just a gorgeous boat, if not me then someone should buy it have a look at this

Wow, that bad boy is clean. Closed bow to closed bow, I think I'd take the 2001 as well. I've heard nothing but great things about the wake.

Theres a hell of alot more room in that supra even with the closed bow. If your planning on going on any big lakes or chop the supra will be better. I have seen them both in person just not the wakes.

I know everybody loves the 2001's but based on the shape and freeboard of the supra shouldn't it be able to take more weight and throw a bigger wake?

Yes it does have more freeboard but more weight doesn't necessarily mean it will throw a bigger wake than the 2001 which is my concern

Not positive but I think that supra is the same hull as todays Launch 21.

You are considering shipping something to NZ?

2001 all the way, only downside is interior room. If you have a big crew or family it can get snug, other than that there bullet proof and a ton of bang for the buck!

Are you thinking of importing a 2001?

Have you ridden behind one?

If not and you are up around Hamilton at any stage let me know and I can take you for a board.

I have ridden behind both boats. Hands down the Supra has the hull to produce twice the wake size. The hull is the same as the Sunsport open bow, and is very similar, if not the same hull, as a newer Launch. Which to date is still one of the cleanest biggest wakes I have ever ridden.

The 2001 produces a very narrow and steep wake, and this is coming from someone who rides behind a Nautique most of the time. They are good boats, but you can not get enough weight into them to produce a hip high wake, without sinking the boat and creating a verticle wall.
