Curious as to your opinions on different brands of boat batteries. Got a favorite? If so, why? Good experiences with any brand? Bad? Did your dealer offer you a choice of batteries, or did you just take whatever brand they put into the boat? Does the brand of boat battery matter? Are any batteries better than others?

You get my drift. You can answer me here, or send me an email at mlittman@doeanderson.com.

As always, thanks for your good advice.

I have to be honest...

I really don't care what battery I get as long as it's placed inside a Supra or a Moomba.

makes no difference to me as long as it does the job. I don't even know what brand is in my boat.

Most all wet plate batteries are the same. WalMart is great. The gel or wet mat batteries (Optima)have greater resistance to shock damage and leakage. I had a couple of regular batteries explode on me (acid burns and all). So, I use Optima or gel batteries only now in the boat.

I like any battery that Johnson Controls puts out.

There are only two battery manufacturers in the U.S.

Johnson Controls

and anyone recall who the other is?

We run a pretty big stereo and spend lots of time parked with it on and have had bad experience with Optimas on two seperate boats. Mainly cause of the way we use them. For that type of use we have had good experience with Odysssy and Kinetic.

Stinger or Kinetic with on board charger and automatic isolator / combiner. More Ah the better.

In my going on 20yrs as a mechanic cars/boats I have had great luck with interstate battery.I run a cranking and also there mid size deep cycle.
I dont seem to have to much luck with the red top optima i have seen them fail alot compared to a lead/acid interstate.I only have 3 sets of wet sounds xs650 speakers in boat 1 sub and two small tower speakers with two small amps.So im not pushing the limits of insane stero systems like some. But i do run a pro charge dual bank battery charger that has worked very well.

I also have interstate batteries in my boat. Wasn't a choice just what came with it and when I started adding more just stuck with them as they haven't let me down and I do abuse them from time to time. I've had optimas in my cars and have only had one that failed a blue top. Not sure why it failed but it did.
