Me and my dad are gonna get a tower to put on our I/O. We've been looking at Monster Towers and XTP. What all do you need to take into consideration when buying a tower(besides appearance)? I'm just looking for some input on what ya'll think would work best or if you have another brand you think is better. Thanks.

Just put a Monster tower on my I/O and I couldn't be more pleased. Easy to install. Just remember 1 thing ...Print the instructions and read them then read them again and again and again. Measure twice drill once. Good luck.

Marshall -

These are a couple things you should take into consideration:

-height of tower (can you fit in garage? Monster tower is great for this)
-Intended use (just boarding? you will need to buy racks, to keep all the of the boat)
-quality (I have owned a monster tower, and the quality is second to none. However, everyone has a preference. The Titan series look really nice from what I have seen too)
-Customer support (Ok, monster's Cust. Supp. Rocks, gotta give it to them. They hooked us up like 3 times with parts.)

I would say, just weigh these factors. Like I said, I owned a Monster Tower for about 3 years, and loved every second of it. However, MT is not for everyone, some people want taller towers/ bigger towers/ different designs. Just make sure you weigh all those factors.

Good luck!

spend the exra $400 bucks or so to have it installed by a shop. and even if you don`t get the speakers right away have them pull the wires through the tubes so you can add them later. Once you have put the holes in your boat your commited. Have a pro do it. even if they screw up its their bad & not yours.
Go with a boss tower, they by far have the best accesories and ther footings are made of buillet and not cheep looking like 90% of towers on the market..

I'm doing the research as I type. I checked w/ my manufacturer and they said to have it professionally installed, too. $450 seemed like a deal for better piece of mind and assurance. For the guys that recently put on a tower, can you describe how it changed how you ride? I'm trying to assess the my boat's limitations on what tricks I shouldn't even try until I have a tower.

I spent a few days last week at the XTP factory in TN. I was very impressed. I was like a kid in a candy store with the fab capabilities and equipment they have :-)

We're now partnered up and will be working together, and to say I'm ecstactic would be an huge understatement. XTP is 150 people focused on manufacturing great tower products and providing excellent customer support. (we're 6 full timers and seasonal help)

The Edge tower from XTP is a great tower, especially for a 18-24' boat. It's a BIG tower and the engineering and fit/finish is impressive.

What size/make/model boat do you have? That will help in your decision.

I have a WellCraft Excalilbur 204. It's an IO, open bow, basically a Scarab offshore hull but shorter. Not necessarily made for wakeboarding, but throws a decent wake because it's heavy and has a Deep V hull. I'll try to attach a photo. It's tricky to control the speed because all it wants to do is get on top of the water and go fast. Let me know if this photo doesn't work.Upload
