I have a 07 Mastercraft X1 and purchased it with two factory tower speakers (JL). I want to add 2 more tower speakers and it looks like MC (dealer) wants $1,770 for another pair (without an amp upgrade). This is a list price and I have yet to attempt negotiations but I was looking at the Wet Sounds 3-some for $1,699 and have been told those sound better than the JL. I could dump my current JL's and add the 3-somes for the same price as adding only 2 new JL's. The only thing I would be giving up is the "factory look" since MC towers have mounts designed for the JL.

Thoughts/opinions???

Didn't MC change thier mounts in '08?

Not sure about the "factory look", but the Wetsounds (Skylon, NVS, etc) would be a huge improvement. Not to knock JL, but that seems WAY overpriced. MC/dealer is making a killing selling them for that price. Look seriously at the WS 3-some, or one of the others.

Good luck.

looks like the dealer is pretty much telling you to bend over and grab your ankles for that price

A friend just had the same dilemma. I convinced him to go with wetsounds. No comparison in sound AT ALL. Wetsounds or one of the other pro-audio tower speakers is the way to go. Plus you should be able to sell the existing MC speakers for a good price........

That is about the right price for those cans buying after the sale. If I were you I would not buy the MC/JL's. I would sell your current speakers. I bet you could get a grand or so for them. Then take that $2700 and buy any Wetsounds combination(4 80's, 2 80's 2 80mb's, threesome, 2 485's, double up, 4 60's). You will be under 2 grand for the speakers. Buy a solid 1000 watt amp and have it installed. End up with the sound for a very similar price. Or Just get a pair of 80's and an amp and save yourself the money. One set of pro-80's will sound better and clearer while riding than 4 MC cans with the JL's.

dude ditch the JL's i have them in my car and their greatfor the car but my buddy has them on his tower and they sound like ass. go with wet sounds or something.... dont let mastercraft rape you with their bs, great boats but they go alittle to far sometimes. i have liquid trends cans and polk momo speakers and i love them... clean sound but not as loud as wet sounds.

MC dealer accidently showed me his price sheet on tower speakers and I think cost was somewhere around 700 bucks, sorry I can't remember what exact price was.

yeah there is no way you can get away with those speakers for 700 they have to be way more expensive.

The JL's do look great on that tower and actually most of the cost is in the can, not the speakers. I agree with many here, go with Wetsounds. You should really go with the pro 60's though. The pro 80's would look way too big on that boat. Also, I doubt that the threesome would work with the mastercraft tower because of the speaker mounts on the tower. NVS will NOT work with the MC tower because of the mounts. Neither will the skylon rubicons at the present time.

Love the look of the MC cans. Too bad nobody has taken their style and put a pro audio speaker in them. An eight or even ten inch MC style can with a pro audio speaker in it would be sweet.

I could sell you 4 fusion 6 1/2 for $800 and you could still save $800+

Thanks for all the responses. I am glad to see that everyone appears to agree with me and I am a novice at this. I am 46 and wakeboard a little but the boat is used to pull my 21, 16 and 12 year old boys. The current JL's sound good but it looks like I correctly assumed there are better sounding speakers out there for far less.

I got busy yesterday and the dealer called and have yet to return his call. The dealer is a super guy and he is not ripping me off, MC is (and I love MC - so far).

RR Mike, after looking at the tower, I think the 60's may be the best route and I will also take a look at the other offers posted. Again, I very much appreciate the advice and offers!

When we got our x-star, I wanted the 4 tower speakers, I had never heard of wetsounds or anyone that made after market speakers. Once i found out that the JL's are $2200 I was so heated, cause there is no way you could sell them for that price. Makes me soo mad

Yup, The towers for MC were changed to the disc mount in 2007. So both the 2007 and 2008 have this new mount.

Bob, You can look at the PRO 60MC or PRO 80MC. MC versions bolt right to those factory mounts for 2007/2008 models. We also offer the MB-8 in a MB-8MC version as well.

You can fit the PRO 485 or 3-Some systems but you just do not use the factory mounts. So most prefer to keep the factory look and go with the 60MC or 80MC. Some even do the 80MC on the outside with the 60MC in the center. (or the MB-8MC on the outside with 60MC on the inside etc)Sounds like the 60MC would be the ticket for you. There are shots of MC's with all variations here http://www.wetsounds.com/pages/gallery/installations/customer_installations.html

Let me know if you have any questions.

If you look at Wet Sounds, NVS, Skylon, don't forget to also look at the HSE Tridents they are another awesome tower speaker and also the only manufacture of the revolution volume control. Hands free control of your stereos volume. As you throttle up the volume come up to the level you set and when you throttle down the volume drops to the level you set. All volume settings are adjustable by the turn of a knob. check em out.

I may be light on my 700, but I remember on one side of the sheet was 3 numbers and on the other the price was double.

FYI - just got the price and it is $1733 for a pair of JL's (excluding install).

I am not going that route and will seriously investigate the offers/options presented in this thread.
